Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span. He/she is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care and provides clinical leadership particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings. In addition, the RN has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidenced based nursing practice.

This individual is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes and is responsible for supporting the development of students and colleagues through acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship. The RN also contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the unit, coordination of patient care and staffing.

Qualifications*

  • Graduate from an approved School of Nursing
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)
  • Current BLS-C (HCP) certification
  • Recent medical/surgical nursing experience an asset
  • Current certification and competence in care, maintenance, and accessing of Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs)
  • Current certification and competence in the administration of Cancer Chemotherapy or willingness to take within (3) years
  • Evidence of ongoing relevant education in oncology
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and members of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated initiative and commitment to continuing professional development
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work*

  • Full Time, Long Assignment; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Commencing November 7, 2021; approximate one year assignment
  • Shifts may include days, nights, weekends and holidays

Salary Information*

$35.2108 - $41.4848 hourly
$42.9366 hourly with 25 years’ nursing experience
