The opportunity

TC Energy’s Central Region is seeking an Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EI&C) Specialist to join the Regional Asset Reliability (RAR) team. The Central Region RAR team is focused on providing equipment integrity support, executing system improvement projects and creating asset management value for TC Energy’s Canadian Mainline gas pipeline system.


Reporting to the Regional Asset Reliability Manager, this position will provide both technical and program management support to the region, with an emphasis on compression assets.


What you’ll do

  • Provide technical guidance, instruction and assistance to field teams, engineering and regional management to ensure the safety and reliable operation of TC Energy assets
  • Subject matter expert (SME) for the maintenance of equipment used for natural gas transportation including analyzing and making recommendations to enhance and add value to preventative maintenance tasks & integrity plans to optimize the reliability and availability of equipment and assets
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of the equipment and assets, and make recommendations related to the effectiveness, functionality and/or performance of equipment
  • Promote and support the standardization of equipment, maintenance functions, and consistent application of procedures
  • Key Liaison with Engineering, Fleet Management, Asset Reliability, and Project teams within TC Energy
  • Part of a team responsible for the proposal, initiation, management and completion of Regional projects and programs using the Project Delivery System
  • Perform cost benefit/cost analysis using analytical tools/methods such as Weibull
  • Assist Regional stakeholders and planning teams in the development and scheduling of O&M and Capital projects related to regional facilities, (including project identification, work scoping, and work justifications)
  • Lead/participate in the execution of Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • Assist in the regional budget process including the development of Investment Valuation (IV) for proposed projects and issue resolutions
  • Mentor, coach and support Technicians and Engineers in Training (EIT)
  • Initiate lead and rollout of new processes and procedures ensuring implementation meets needs and requirements as well as increasing efficiency and profit. (i.e. Management of Change Process)


Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education in Engineering Technology or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience, with a combination of operations and engineering, in the natural gas industry


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to manage projects independently
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on cost/benefit assessment
  • Strong investigative and data analysis ability
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of project management methodologies; prior project management experience/certification would be an asset
  • Excellent computer and equipment application skills


This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract (record) for review
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training will be required
  • This will involve some overnight stays away from home base (estimated up 30% of work schedule) and will include living in and maintaining company camps or housing
