Production Worker / Junior Maintenance Specialist, Halifax

As Production Worker / Junior Maintenance Specialist you will join either as a Nursery/Production Worker and a Maintenance Specialis. A Nursery Worker will be responsible for the plants from the seeding, propagation to seedling stage in our hydroponic nursery farms. A Production Worker will work to monitor plant health in our production farms from seedling to harvest, along with packaging/preparation for the end consumer.

As a Junior Maintenance Specialist you will perform some practical maintenance, as you’ll be solving a variety of technical problems related to pipes, pumps, valves, radiators, irrigation systems, LED lamp units and fans. You’ll also need to combine this, with great communication skills and the basic skills to maintain the smooth running of our software, ‘the brains’ of our urban farms. Previous software/coding skills are not required, as training will be provided. Moreover, having high attention to detail and being well organized are among your strongest skills.

Responsibilities (but Not Limited To)

• Perform efficient and precise seeding according to individual plant requirements
• Follow the germination process and detect deficiencies in the seedlings’ health
• Select, label, and prepare seedling kits for planting into our farms
• Harvest, plant, and package infarm plants while ensuring the delivery of high standard produce to our clients with minimal food waste
• Protect the health of our plants by applying basic plant protection measures and keeping the farms squeaky-clean
• Report on harvest records and plant issues using our internal infarm app
• Ensure the safety of yourself and others by following Health and Safety legislation and guidelines
• Solve any technical problems that may arise related to pipes, pumps, valves, LED lamps and fans
• Help identify, report on and solve basic software issues (training will be provided and more complex software support will be given)
• Service the farms at our customer locations and in our plant hub on bi-weekly basis
• Work with chemicals to mix fertilizer and pH regulating solutions as needed
• You will work closely with our production team and our customers to support the health of our farms
• Perform planned preventive maintenance, on all production operations systems and subsystems including cleaning of all equipment on a regular basis
  
  

Requirements

• Experience working in a production environment, ideally in the food production or related industry
• Strong attention to detail and cleanliness to meet food safety standards
• Comfortable working in a repetitive in nature environment following SOPs (standard operating procedures)
• Practical maintenance skills, including with both electrical and plumbing components
• Read and understand mechanical/electrical blueprints, schematic drawings and service manuals
• Able to identify and troubleshoot technical issues in a clear and concise manner
• Valid driver’s license as you’ll be driving to visit our local farms in a company vehicle
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to report issues and record your work
• Strong attention to detail along with a good eye caring for cleanliness around our farms
