Compensation $64K annually plus benefits.

Program & Location: Hybrid work. While some hours in our Gastown office are required, working from home is an option.

The Opportunity

The Payroll Administrator plays an essential role in growing talent in our business through collaboration and sharing best practices with the Payroll team. You know how to be curious about opportunities, and how to be real with feedback and support for each business unit you support.

As the Payroll Administrator, you will be responsible for all activities regarding payroll processing and administration, including tasks such as entering payroll information, conducting precise calculations, and safeguarding the confidentiality of employee records.

About You

We are looking for a talented individual with a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and efficient data processing abilities to join our collaborative team at Atira. Our ideal candidate will have a passion for navigating complex information and ensuring the utmost accuracy in all payroll-related duties.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Administrator will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Process semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll for about 900 employees in various pay groups.
  • Process payroll layoffs as they occur; produce Records of Employment
  • Perform required wage increases and pay adjustments as requested by management or as outlined in the union agreements.
  • Respond to employee questions and concerns.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and interacting with various departments, managers, and employees.
  • Respond and fulfil requests for employment verifications, Service Canada requests, WCB and wage garnishment requests.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of payroll functions for audit purposes, in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Production of year end forms (T4, T4Summary & T4A)
  • Produce any journal entries relating to payroll reconciliations.
  • Complete filing as necessary
  • Act as back up to colleagues during vacation.

Work with other Payroll Administrators, Human Resources, Finance Department to ensure all employees are remunerated and in compliance with all federal and provincial legislation and the collective agreements.

Qualifications

  • PCP designation
  • Post-Secondary education in Accounting, Business or Finance is preferred or a combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent payroll Canadian Unionized payroll processing experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Experience and good working knowledge of payroll systems (UKG preferred), internal controls and management.
  • Experience in processing hourly timesheets, salaries, bonuses, and other forms of compensation.
  • Ability to prepare ad hoc reports using MS Excel (intermediate level preferred)
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills!
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong customer service focus, work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory compliance and procedures including labor laws and employment standards in jurisdictions where Atira operates.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills
