仕事内容

Are you passionate about ending homelessness? Do you have a background in communications and marketing? Then consider joining the growing team at Ottawa-based affordable housing charity Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI)! We proudly own and operate five affordable housing sites, including Veterans’ House: the Andy Carswell Building, a 40-unit home for veterans who formerly experienced homelessness and housing precarity. As MHI’s Manager of Communications & Marketing, you’ll report directly to the Executive Director as you oversee and execute all matters related to communications and marketing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Storytelling:You’ll rely on your top-notch interviewing/English-language writing skills to “tell the story” of MHI. You’ll interview tenants, as well as MHI stakeholders, and strategically incorporate their stories when you write newsletters/articles and create other communications/marketing products. We’ll be counting on you to draw on your excellent people skills to facilitate an empowering, positive storytelling experience for all involved.

Creating compelling multimedia visual content: You’ll allocate your department’s budget to produce an impressive suite of multimedia products for MHI.

  • Photography: We take most of our pictures ourselves throughout the year. As such, you can take quality photos and are willing to learn and improve on the job. You can also collaborate with professional photographers when required.
  • Graphic design: With your great eye for quality graphic design and demonstrated ability to collaborate with visual artists, you’ll work closely with design firms/freelancers to produce products that align with our brand identity standards, including infographics, brochures, PowerPoint decks, templates, etc. When budget constraints prohibit outsourcing, you’ll use design tools such as Canva to create simpler products in house. (If you have experience using more sophisticated design software – such as Adobe InDesign/Photoshop/Publisher – that’s even better!)
  • Videography: You’ll be responsible for directing and producing short videos, i.e.: writing video scripts, capturing quality footage, setting up shoots, interviewing subjects, preparing footage shot lists, organizing files, and working collaboratively with remote video editors to produce engaging video content. (Previous experience editing videos will be considered a major asset but is not required for this job. The ability to film well/capture meaningful moments is more important!)

Designing and executing a social media strategy:You’ll design social media campaigns, build a content calendar, and create content for MHI’s social media channels.

Updating website content:You will update our website using Weebly (a drag-and-drop templated online webpage creator). If you haven’t used Weebly before, that’s ok – we will provide training!

Writing/designing email campaigns through MailChimp:You’ll use MailChimp (an ESP, or Email Service Provider) to work writing/designing email campaigns. If you haven’t used MailChimp previously, we will provide basic training.

Media relations:In consultation with the Executive Director and specialized volunteers on our Communications & Marketing Committee, you’ll coordinate media relations materials such as news releases, media packages, and photography for members of the press.

Commitment to the cause:Your respect and care for those we serve will give purpose to your day, every day.Your commitment to our mission, and belief in the transformative impact of our work, will help you maintain a positive attitude as you successfully balance priorities and meet deadlines.

Other special projects: You’ll oversee and execute communications/marketing-related projects and tasks, as needed.

Other assistance:As a team player, you’ll be ready to step in to assist with other MHI tasks and projects.
