Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

At Guelph General Hospital, we expect our leaders to:

  • Have a minimum 5 years’ experience in a clinical leadership role
  • Cultivate a teamwork environment where all interactions with patients, families, staff and volunteers demonstrate compassion, accountability, respect and teamwork
  • Address identified patient safety/patient experience concerns in the department
  • Partner with patients, families and staff in department decision-making, planning and design processes
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous quality improvement and implementing departmental process changes that support a seamless care experience
  • Identify improvements that maximize organizational efficiencies, remove waste and add value using Lean methodologies
  • Ensure the department is maintaining a balanced financial position
  • Coach and mentor staff to create a high functioning department
  • Participate in ongoing personal leadership development
  • Clearly define and communicate performance expectations for department staff
  • Develop and maintain effective human resource planning for department
  • Implement organizational strategies to enhance staff engagement within the department
  • Develop a departmental communication strategy aligned with corporate communication strategy
  • Facilitate departmental and inter-departmental collaboration
  • Identify risk management issues within department and communicate to key stakeholders
  • Work independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Orchestrate organizational change initiatives to improve both clinical and fiscal metrics
  • Plan, execute and evaluate projects
  • Demonstrated ability to access, interpret, and synthesize evidence based practices
  • Apply communication, facilitation and conflict management skills and expertise to influence and negotiate effective quality of care process and resolution of issues/disputes
  • Demonstrates knowledge in clinical practice in the care of Medicine patients; including, patients with stroke, COPD, CHF, and the care of complex medical and geriatric patients.
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
  • Have proven facilitation, communication, relationship building, collaboration, leadership and organizational skills
  • Analyse fiscal, patient care data and statistics, along with excellent PC application skills
  • Lead Accreditation teams

Education:

  • BScN required, Master’s degree in a health related field preferred
  • Membership in relevant professional organization(s)
  • Strong understanding of health care roles, scope of practice and health-care related legislation (e.g. RHPA, QCIPA, Nursing Act, CNO standards)
  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
