Meet Benevity

Benevity’s award-winning corporate purpose software empowers companies and their people to take social action on the issues and causes they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking and positive actions, we help 650+ clients (and counting!) build better cultures and engage their employees and customers to create greater social and business impact. We’re also one of the first B-Corps in Canada, meaning we’re as committed to purpose as we are to profits.

At Benevity, design the change you want to see in the world.

Benevity’s Product Experience team is growing, and we have a great opportunity for a Localization Specialist. We have a clear product vision for inspiring daily goodness in our clients, their employees and customers, and the charitable causes they support. We need your help on that journey.

Benevity’s clients are global brands that are part of your everyday life. They use the software and content we design and create to run their corporate goodness programs. Their goal is to attract, retain and engage today’s global workforce by connecting their employees to millions of causes through our ecosystem, so that they can volunteer, give, and learn about the issues they care about.

If your passions and experience match the role that we’ve described here, please apply. Experience comes in many forms: skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way. We know that diversity makes for the best problem-solving and creative thinking, which is why we’re dedicated to adding new perspectives to the team.

Your role:

As the Localization Lead, you will be a key member of our Product Experience team, working in the Content Design group to ensure that the localized experience for our global users is seamless, relevant, and of the highest quality. You will advocate for our global users and elevate and educate your Benevity colleagues on exceptional localized experiences as our internal subject matter expert. You will be the main project manager for our translation workflows, owning the relationship with our vendors and a growing network of partners and consultants. As Benevity expands into new global markets, you will work with a cross-functional international team to identify and deliver key localization needs. You will be responsible for the quality of our translations, and the efficiency of our delivery processes.

As the Localization Lead at Benevity, you will:

  • Report directly to the Product Content Manager
  • Ensure the overall quality and relevance of localized experience for our global users
  • Manage all workflows and processes to deliver localized user interfaces and content in 21 (and counting!) supported languages
  • Maintain the source glossaries and localization style guides used by our vendors and partners
  • Work directly with our translation vendors, owning and coordinating end-to-end translation delivery workflows
  • Develop a network of partners, agencies and consultants in key markets to understand local context
  • Provide localization guidance and recommendations for specific markets to Content Designers
  • Own and coordinate vendor and contractor relationships
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team including engineering, product and design to develop and deliver localized experiences
  • Support Client Success, Marketing and Sales teams to position and define Benevity’s localized experiences
  • Provide localization feedback on major content initiatives, new product features, and technical documentation

What you bring:

You are an experienced, confident project manager, capable of overseeing multiple delivery workflows at once, on time, on budget, while meeting the highest possible quality standards. Your relentless focus on continual improvement and passion for refining processes and finding efficiencies will see you continually optimize and scale our workflows to meet our expanding needs. A skilled collaborator, you are confident interacting with vendors, clients, and a wide range of internal stakeholders. You are an accomplished relationship manager able to build a powerful network of partners and consultants to supplement and amplify your capacity and domain knowledge.

  • Minimum five years experience coordinating localization or translation for a SaaS or technology company
  • Familiarity with the different translation management software tools available in the marketplace and the ability to provide recommendations on tools and solutions
  • Comfort with multitasking and an ability to oversee several projects simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment
  • Exacting attention to detail and high-quality standards for yourself and your collaborators
  • University undergrad or equivalent in either linguistics, communications, or related discipline, or project management (or relevant experience)
  • Bilingual or multilingual candidates is a big plus, particularly Canadian French, Spanish, or German
  • Experience with digital workflow / documentation software (we use the Atlassian suite)
  • Experience publishing and updating a client-facing knowledge-base CMS (we use Zendesk)
  • HTML familiarity is a plus

What you can expect:

  • Be a part of a product experience team that genuinely cares for each other and the work we do—we are a very supportive and empathetic group.
  • A team that’s growing in size—which means opportunities for leadership if you are interested.
  • Giving, volunteering, and granting are surprisingly complex and rewarding problem spaces to work in.
  • To become a better writer, designer and leader and have a tangible impact on the world here at Benevity.
  • Focus on outcomes, not output. Creating more acts of goodness in the world guides everything we do.
  • Have regular conversations with your manager about your personal growth.
  • A flexible work location. We have offices in Calgary, Victoria, and Toronto, but remote work is also an option.
  • A safe and collaborative environment, where we design for everyone.
  • Autonomy to balance the needs of the business with the expectations of your personal life.
  • $2,500 per year in charitable donations and volunteer matching through our giving program.

Our Interview Process

Our hiring process is designed to be a good experience for both you and us. We don’t believe that take-home exercises or tests accurately demonstrate your abilities as a researcher to execute your craft day-to-day. Instead, we focus on understanding the Why, What, and How you achieved the outcomes you have as a researcher. After being contacted by the Benevity people team for an introductory call, you can expect:

  • Initial interview with a small group focused on how your skills match our job posting (60-90 min)
  • The In-depth case-study presentation where you share a deep dive into your past work (90 minutes)
  • Group Interview where you get to meet some of the product management and product marketing team (45 minutes)
  • Interview with product leadership (45 minutes)
