We are currently searching for a Learning & Development Specialist. Reporting to the Organizational Development Manager and as a key member of the Human Resources team, the Learning and Development Specialist will provide design, development and delivery of courses and programs to support corporate employee development.Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) including participation in the selection process of program participants, supporting effective individual development plans, providing ongoing individual and assignment feedback, and ensuring cohesion between program workshops, projects, assignments, and desired outcomes. ELP is delivered through a blend of in-house delivery and external facilitators.
  • Design and develop new workshop content, primarily for topics related to leadership development.
  • Facilitate instructor-led workshops that build skills across the City’s Great 8 competencies (e.g. Effective Communication), with a primary focus on leadership development. Workshops may be self-developed content, existing City content, or content from an external content provider (e.g. Insights, Crucial Learning).
  • Provide meaningful feedback to program participants, helping to increase their self-awareness and encourage personal development.
  • Provide various administration and coordination activities, including admin for the City’s Career Funding program, the City’s Coaching program, external facilitator bookings, course materials, catering, etc.
  • Manage and maintain course enrollments and attendance through the City’s Learning Management System - Docebo (branded SurreyLearns).
  • Develop participant and program assessments to evaluate content effectiveness.
  • Act as a resource, responding to inquiries regarding learning services.
  • Undertake special learning projects and assignments.
Qualifications
  • University degree in HR or related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a training and development role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven facilitation track record in delivering an exceptional workshop experience to diverse groups within a corporate environment.
  • Strong communication skills and an excellent ability to build trust and maintain strong working relationships with members of the team, partners, and program participants.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
  • Self-driven and committed to professional development and continuous learning, including knowledge of the latest learning and development trends and best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and service skills; tactful in dealing with others.
  • Good judgment, initiative, and can work independently and contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to thrive in an ever-changing, fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs: Word, PowerPoint
  • A valid and unrestricted driver’s license is required.
Preferred candidates will have one or more of the following assets:
  • Insights Discovery accreditation.
  • Crucial Learning Trainer Certification (e.g. Crucial Conversations).
  • Completion of a recognized facilitators program.
