Job Summary

The City of Guelph Recreation Division offers a variety of recreation program for people of all ages and abilities in weekly sessions throughout the year. Reporting to the Recreation Program Coordinator - Inclusion, successful candidates will assist children aged 5-12 living with various disabilities as they participate in the Learn to Skate program. Successful candidates will be required to skate with the participants for the duration of the lessons and support behaviorally as well as physically.

Hours of work

Tuesdays and/or Thursdays 445pm-745pm

Fall Session dates October 5- December 16

Winter Session dates January 4 - March 10

Full availability required for session

Location

West End Community Center, 21 Imperial Rd South

Mandatory on-ice training Thursday September 30, 545pm-635pm

West End Community Center- Rink 2

Duties
  • Utilize behaviour management skills and strategies to support children living with disabilities
  • Assist with the communication of skills directed by the coaches
  • Create a welcoming environment for all participants
  • Communicate with other coaches and the on-ice facilitator
  • Create an inclusive environment on ice
  • Provide a fun, engaging and positive atmosphere for the skaters
Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals living with various disabilities
  • Experience working with children
  • Possess strong skating skills
  • Experience working with non-skaters, beginner and advanced skaters
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to respect and maintain participant confidentiality
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification (willing to obtain prior to start of program)
  • A satisfactory Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check is required at time of offer
  • Full availability is required for scheduled program days and times
Rate

$15.01 per hour
