LAB TECHNICIAN - Organic Chemistry

Reporting to the Research Scientist and R&D Management the incumbent is responsible for performing organic synthesis, purification, characterization, and analysis of small molecules efficiently as directed. They will support other related R&D projects in process of formulation development, evaluation, analytical characterization, and technology transfer to scientists involved in clinical manufacturing activities.

Key Tasks

• Perform organic synthesis, purification, characterization, and analysis of small molecules efficiently using NMR and LC/MS techniques.
• Synthesize key intermediates, final reagents, and starting materials to be used in R&D projects.
• Scale-up (mg to gm scale) of the reagents/small molecules and building an inventory of research-grade reagents/supplies to support R&D activities.
• Calibrate, validate, and maintain equipment.
• Perform routine lab maintenance and assisting other scientists.
• Maintain an orderly laboratory environment in compliance with safety regulations and internal SOPs.
• Document information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
• Complete projects by assisting project team; attending and participating in group and project meetings.
• Follow corporate and laboratory standards and SOPs.
• Work under direct supervision of research scientists/team leads and lab managers.
• Write scientific reports and present scientific data in weekly team meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

• BSc degree with minimum of 3 - 5 years of relevant professional experience in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry within an industrial setting.
• Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute medicinal chemistry research project.
• Strong academic and practical background in modern synthetic, organic, or medicinal chemistry design and methodology.
• Experience in characterizing and purifying new molecules using various equipment and techniques.
• Experience in using spectroscopic methods (NMR, MS, IR, UV-Vis), titration, chromatography (Column/flash, TLC, UHPLC), distillation, extraction, and re-crystallization techniques.
• Previous working experience in drug discovery R&D in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
• Strong computer, scientific, organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills.
• Able to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment to meet timelines.
• Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, multitasking, and decision-making skills are essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills along with the ability to give presentations as required.
• Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
• Must be eligible to work in Canada (Must provide proof of eligibility to work in Canada upon request)
