Irrigation Specialist | Job Description

As the Irrigation Specialist , reporting to the Head of Maintenance and under the guidance of the Head of Cultivation (or COO), you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the irrigation system in order to meet the needs of cultivation and executing on the irrigation and nutrient management strategy that is developed by the Head of Cultivation and approved by the Chief Operations Officer.

The Irrigation Specialist will work closely with the Cultivation Manager to ensure productivity standards are met and will look to identify areas for continuous improvement. It is expected that the Irrigation Specialist will follow all company SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and enforce these guidelines.

The Irrigation Specialist will report directly to the Head of Maintenance or designate and will have no direct reports. In the event of absence, the Cultivation Manager will provide coverage.

Job Duties

• Execute on the nutrient programs developed by the Head of Cultivation to ensure strain specific needs are met.
• Maintain strategy that has been developed by the Head of Cultivation for crop irrigation and feeding schedules
• Work closely with grow team to ensure irrigation plan is properly implemented and maintained
• Maintain inventory of all chemicals and fertilizers on site
• Ensure fertilizer concentrate tanks are filled adequately
• Respond to system alarms and diagnose/troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively
• Take measurements, record data and observations
• Research and data collection
• Write and execute Standard Operating Procedures related to fertigation
• Performs regular calibration of nutrient testing instruments
• Monitor root zone moisture content of the crop, and obtain water samples for testing
• Able to work variable shifts to meet business requirements
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma
• Post-secondary education preferred
• Understanding the production of cannabis
• Understanding of the nutritional requirements of plants is an asset
• Understanding of the water relations of plants is an asset
• Understanding of the nutrient and water delivery systems used in commercial agriculture
• Previous experience in the cannabis industry considered an asset
• Ability to keep accurate records
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to communicate both verbally and through electronic communication effectively to individual and groups
• Ability to deal with multiple demands simultaneously
• Ability to work well as a team player in a fast-paced and rapidly developing environment
• Experience with the Microsoft suite
• Proven ability to plan, set and achieve goals within a team environment
• Ability to train new team members
• Ability to interact with co-workers in a friendly and helpful way
• Must be able to complete a Criminal Background Check

Work Conditions

This role requires a company-provided uniform and additional Personal Protective Equipment to be worn at all times.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $45,565.00-$70,000.00 per year
