Salary: $18/hour
Contract Length: 6 Months

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under general supervision of the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Assistant provides administrative support for the day-to-day operations of the human resources functions and duties. This position is focused on providing customer service and answering a variety of inquiries related to human resources activities, processes, policies, and procedures. The HR Assistant also performs a variety of tasks requiring specialized knowledge related to area of assignment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada
  • Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, facility users and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka
  • Ensures that current and archived employee files and records are maintained in accordance with legal requirements and association policies and procedures
  • Assists with seasonal hiring and off-boarding
  • Processes, verifies, and maintains documentation relating to new hires
  • Manages staff change documentation and processing
  • Supports and assists in the recruitment processes
  • Coordinates benefits administration
  • Supports disability management
  • Tracks pension eligibility and sends employee notifications monthly
  • Responds to employee inquiries and helps staff understand HR policies, practices and procedures
  • Assists with the implementation of services, policies, and programs
  • Prepares various correspondence and memoranda, including employment verification letters
  • Monitors employee certification and training compliance and sends notifications as required as well as update HRIS
  • Prepares HR reports upon request
  • Assists with the day-to-day efficient operation of the HR department
  • Adherence to all provincial and federal legislation relevant to job description.
JOB KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-secondary education equivalent to a university degree in Human Resources or related field
  • CHRP designation (or in progress) is an asset
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in a human resources function
  • Knowledge of HR related principles and best working practices and procedures, employment standards legislation and other regulatory requirements
  • Experience with benefits administration and disability management
  • Understanding of basic recruiting principles
  • Understanding of human resource reporting and recordkeeping requirements
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply general administrative and departmental policies and procedures
  • Proven ability to develop effective relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Adaptability to set and prioritize work and meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities and styles
  • Exercise good judgment and confidentiality in maintaining critical and sensitive information, records, and reports
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to read, understand and review documents for accuracy and relevant information
  • Effective, clear, and precise communication skills – written, verbal and through presentations
  • Computer skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); HRIS (Ceridian Dayforce preferred)
  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions
  • A deep understanding of customer service in an office environment
  • Must be able to work flexible hours based on client needs
  • Clear Police Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Mandated training (including AODA, Workplace Violence & Harassment, Health & Safety Awareness, Child Protection, PCI Compliance, etc.) is required before or shortly after commencement of work
