Position Summary:

• Responsible for managing a team of ~15 people, including Principle/Senior Scientists, Scientists, Unit Heads and Technologists supporting new vaccine projects and commercial products.

• Oversees completion of deliverables within project timelines according to the project strategy, project resources and budget allocation.

• Manages the R&D LIMS system for the Toronto site R&D Departments.

• In depth knowledge of method development, validation, strategic and operational thinking within and GMP/GLP environment.

• Strong leadership, scientific background with excellent communication, networking skills and team-building qualities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leads the development and implementation of molecular biology test strategy and the development and validation of molecular assays in support of the characterization, release, stability and control of new vaccines and commercial products, including routine testing for these purposes.

• Provides scientific and managerial leadership including the hiring of staff, budget preparation and the allocation of resources to projects within and across platforms in AnSci organization.

• Develops competencies, scientific and behavioral, to best serve current projects and further develop the team.

• Serves as a resource and mentor that leads scientific aspects within the platform, including identifying/evaluating/developing new testing technologies (for example, high-throughput sequencing, digital PCR, bioinformatics and automation) and by building upon state-of-the-art methods available internally or through innovative partnerships and collaborations within and outside the company.

• Works in partnership with Analytical Sciences management team and CMC Leaders to ensure strategic alignment and to deliver high quality results on-time, within budget and in accordance with the Research to Launch project prioritization and franchise strategies.

• Ensures optimum management of the processes necessary to support Research projects and for completing the analytical sections of regulatory documents supporting Sanofi Pasteur portfolio.

• Establishes external partnerships to promote generation and sharing of scientific data as well as the adoption of new technologies by regulatory agencies.

• Provides leadership to support the development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the R&D Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for all R&D in Toronto.

• Supports the digitalization of Analytical Sciences’ processes.

Key Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience or M.Sc. Degree with a minimum of 15 years relevant work experience in the industry in the area of analytical test development with well demonstrated competencies in personnel leadership, including management of direct reports.

• Strong leadership presence and ability to interact with other senior levels across the functions and also externally with regulatory authorities and key consultants / collaborators.

• Strong scientific and strategy analysis background with broad perspective of analytical and technical knowledge.

• Strong leader and advocate for GMP and GLP compliance.

• Vaccine development experience and a demonstrated drive to completion.
