Role

The Provincial Archives of Alberta (PAA) preserves the collective memory of Alberta and contributes to the protection of Albertans’ rights and sense of identity. The PAA is currently seeking a Government Records Technician.

Reporting to the program Manager, the Archival Technician provides technical support to the Collections Management Section of the PAA in meeting its mandate to acquire, preserve and make available records of permanent value to the people and Government of Alberta.

As the successful candidate, you will support the Section by

  • documenting the acceptance of records into the custody and control of the archives (accessioning);
  • processing archival records;
  • retrieval of archival records;
  • participating in special projects as required; and
  • providing back-up coverage as needed.

To be successful, you will require an awareness of the legislation that provides the framework within which the PAA operates, and of archival and information management principles, practices and techniques, especially those related to the processing of archival collections. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you will be a key contact for clients, government organizations and volunteers.

Qualifications

A two-year diploma in a related field, such as information management or library technology with at least one year of related experience. Awareness of archival and information management principles, practices and techniques and demonstrated ability to perform preventative preservation work are assets. Equivalencies will be considered.

Salary

$1,729.02 to $2191.08 bi-weekly ($45,127.42 - $57,187.18 per year)

This is for 1 full-time permanent position.

Hours of work: 36.25 hours/week, Monday to Friday 8:15 am – 4:30 pm, work week.
