Team

The Compute team enables engineers in our organization to bootstrap and run the services that power Affirm’s stability and availability. Starting with our Kubernetes-based infrastructure, our vision is to build a self-serve system that every engineering team at Affirm can use to configure and deploy global products. This is a high impact team with visibility across the entire company. It plays a critical role in enabling Affirm to deliver a great product to our customers.

The team is part of Affirm’s Platform & Infrastructure Engineering organization which provides shared infrastructure and framework for the Product engineering teams. The goals are to build systems and tools that allow all engineering teams to produce software that is scalable, reliable, secure, instrumented and well tested.

Role

As Manager for Compute, you will combine a strong understanding of application architecture, smooth developer experiences and fast-paced execution. You’ll deliver a powerful self-serve system to help Affirm scale easily by applying a customer-centric approach to craft and deliver a long-term strategic roadmap.

What you’ll do

• Lead inclusive teams, mentoring engineers and technical leads, and applying practices that help teams grow.
• Develop strong product and architectural vision and collaborate, communicate, and influence the company’s engineering culture
• Work with dozens of customers across the engineering organization to build long term roadmaps and an ecosystem of user-friendly tools that will enable the rest of Affirm engineering

What we look for:

• Communication with empathy and compassion that builds trust
• Extensive experience developing cloud-based services using Python, JVM-Based languages and AWS infrastructure
• In-depth, hands-on experience building, scaling and operating platforms for containerized workloads, including cluster provisioning and workflow orchestration, ideally Kubernetes
• Understanding of continuous integration / continuous deployment processes and tools and how to support and operate critical production-grade systems

Location - Remote Canada

Affirm is proud to be a remote-first company ! The majority of our roles are remote and can be located anywhere in the U.S. and Canada (with the exception of the U.S. Territories, Quebec, Yukon, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories) unless the job indicates a different global location. We are currently building operations in Spain, Poland, and Australia. Employees in remote roles have the option of working remotely or from an Affirm office in their country of hire, and may occasionally travel to an Affirm office or elsewhere for required meetings or team-building events. Our offices in Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Toronto will remain operational and accessible for anyone to use on a voluntary basis, subject to local COVID-19 guidelines.

All full-time jobs at Affirm (excluding interns and apprentices) are tied to a transparent grade-based pay range taking location into account.
