Purpose of Job:


Leads and oversees the provisions forecasting and planning of Global Retail Lending portfolios covering both Canada and International. This includes running the monthly provisions aggregation process, quarterly financial disclosure and Snr Management provision reporting.

Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the provisions reporting and on-going compliance with IFRS and OSFI regulations. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for strengthening the current processes and documentation to satisfy Internal, External, and SOX audit requirements


Job Responsibilities:


  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Leads the Planning and forecasting process relative to provisions and allowances leveraging relevant systems and planning tools.
  • Provides strategic direction in the communication of provisions results/forecast to Financial units in country for International portfolio and Canada Finance
  • Leads the aggregation and consolidation of provisions and allowances at the total Bank level for Retail using multiple data sources and establishing controls that are aligned with the Bank’s end user control (EUC) directive.
  • Leads the ACL booking file as set out in Service Level Agreement with Global Finance including management review and approval process.
  • Leads the consolidation of all inputs for financial statement disclosures including coordination of management review and sign offs required by Global Finance. Leads the monthly reconciliation of balances to the Bank’s general ledger
  • Leads the all bank consolidation, standardization and reporting for Retail portfolios creating appropriate summaries for distribution to Senior Management and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate review and update of SOX and end to end process documentation, working collaboratively with GRM Global Retail Provision teams and external stakeholders.
  • Develop provisions related risk metrics for the Bank’s risk appetite and monitors adherence with the Financial management team.
  • Keep updated on provision methodology and be knowledgeable of IFRS9 accounting standard.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Job Requirements:


  • Advanced degree in Economics, Finance or MBA. Professional designation is beneficial (e.g., CMA, CFA, FRM).
  • 5+ years’ experience in credit risk and/or financial reporting and analysis reporting for either retail or wholesale products
  • Excellent knowledge in reporting and data management applications including EXCEL, Tableau and Knowledge of regulations and current regulatory and accounting issues
