Data Scientist
Division: Corporate – Information Technology
Work Status: Full-time
Location: Corus Quay / Remote

About the Role
As a Data Scientist at Corus Entertainment you will work with various cross-functional teams like Product Management, Research, Marketing, Sales and Finance to provide direction towards data strategy to promote data centric initiatives within the company. Thought leadership on data driven workflows and business insights should include responsible and thoughtful actions to the communities that we serve. Management in the form of Data Governance, ethics and policy has become an important corner stone in our Data Science practice as we continue to monitor the rapidly changing landscape of privacy regulation and AI transparency.
You will use your experience as a data practitioner to recommend techniques and help prioritize analytical approaches. Developing hypothesis and using statistical methods to test, prove or disprove ideology will be common practice when determining direction and next steps. Being able to recount data driven stories will help to influence and communicate value to key stakeholders as you present options to business representatives.

Responsibilities:

• Develop models using appropriate data science techniques to generate actionable insights, working alongside product owners from the various business units at Corus
• Identification of data sources within the business and integration of those sources into the data technology platforms to support analysis and data workflows
• Ad hoc analysis where requested by the business
• Thought leadership on data organization, approaches, workflows, and processes that allow the translation of real-world business problems into useful internal and external products and services
• Maintaining up-to-date industry knowledge around the practice of Data Science and the technology stacks that support it
• Work with IT, Digital, and Broadcast technology teams to operationalize data driven workflows
• Collaborate with other members of the Data Science team to design and operate the technology stack used to support data analysis
• Maintain knowledge about ML operational expertise across hybrid cloud platforms
• Participation in Data Governance, ethics and policy initiative

About You

Basic Qualifications:

• BA/BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics or other related field
• Expertise in data science related development language, such as Python (preferred), or R
• Expertise in cloud-based technology stacks for data analytics (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform)
• Expertise with machine learning and statistical modeling tools such as ScikitLearn, Pandas, Tensorflow, and/or Keras
• Expertise working with NLP, Deep Learning and other ML techniques
• Having worked with specialized techniques like BERT is a plus
• Experience working in an Agile environment
• Experience with data visualization and presentation
• Understanding of the engineering/software development lifecycle
• Great communication skills with the equal ability to work with technologists as well as translating to non-technical business stakeholders with ease
• Proven capacity to deliver excellent results to stakeholders/clients
• Commitment to continuous education in a fast evolving industry

Preferred Qualifications:

• Self-directed, accountable, proactive, organized, efficient, tenacious (persistent about bringing open items/projects to closure), engaged, enthusiastic, able to lead, motivate and drive results
• Ability to manage multiple projects successfully
• Able to delegate tasks effectively
• Two or more years professional experience at a media company is desirable
• Client service focus
• Great communication skills, written, verbal, presentation and the ability to influence others
• Proven leadership capabilities
• Solutions oriented approach to problem solving
• Teamwork focus and ability to operate in a matrix style organization
• Proven capacity to deliver excellent results to stakeholders/clients
