    Welcome to the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, the first and largest bilingual medical faculty in Canada.     Position purpose:
    Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing, Communications and Engagement, Oversees the writing and editing of communications and marketing materials for a wide range of communication channels, including Web and print materials, e-mail marketing, video, press releases, social media and more. Implements innovative strategies with the objective to optimize the value of the content appearing across the Faculty of Medicine’s communication channels to ensure this content supports the Faculty of Medicine and the University’s reputation and main objectives.

    In this role you will:

    • With the objective to enhance readership of all corporate communications, supervises the work of the content team by facilitating and tracking projects status, identifying problems and issues, allocating appropriate resources and ensuring that projects are completed on schedule and at the highest levels of quality.
    • With the objective to enhance the reputation and brand image of the Faculty of Medicine, develops and implements communications strategies that ensure cohesion and consistency of messaging
    • Oversees the content of the Faculty of Medicine website ensuring accuracy of all information and proper protocols for various applications. Champions new ideas for content according to evolving academic, clinical, and teaching achievements and news events at the Faculty of Medicine; conducts research, interviews and writes/edits articles for various media using multiple platforms including web, print, social media, video and ad copy.
    • Provides direction and support to Marketing and Communications and other Faculty of Medicine staff with regard to tone and suitability of articles written for distribution via various platforms, ensuring that deadlines are met.
    • With the objective to increase the visibility of the Faculty of Medicine, develops tactics to seek out and obtain inspiring stories, writes articles and co-coordinates proofreading and translation. Researches clients’ products/services/image to ensure ability to write accurate, on-target copy/concepts for assigned projects.

    What you will bring:

    • Knowledge of journalism, communications or public relations normally acquired through post-secondary studies or equivalent work experience;
    • Five years’ experience in journalism/communications/public relations, writing and editing;
    • Proven capabilities in management, and ability to resolve conflicts;
    • Proven experience in project management
    • Experience in a health research and post-secondary or public-sector environment
    • Ability to co-ordinate a variety of tasks under pressure
    • Strong organizational, planning and analytical skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, and to interact with creative professionals in a positive manner during high stress situations and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment;
    • Sound judgment, initiative, creativity, flexibility, tact and diplomacy, as well as experience in dealing with conflict situations and sensitive issues that reflect on corporate image;
    • Proficiency in word processing and knowledge of desktop publishing, HTML editing software (eg.WordPress, Drupal) and image editing software (e.g. Paint Shop Pro);
    • Bilingual, with emphasis on excellence in one of two official languages;
    • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

    Bilingualism: French and English (spoken and written); to be considered for this position, candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced proficiency level or higher for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language. The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.
