About this opportunity:
Reporting to the Manage, Regional Communications & Stakeholder Engagement, this position is responsible for providing communications support to Cenovus’s operations in Lloydminster, Alberta. The Communications Advisor will play a key role in the development and execution of communication plans and activities that ensure alignment with Cenovus’s business priorities and values. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting business strategies and programs and events, utilizing a wide range of communication tools and vehicles.
This is a full-time employee position requires the successful candidate to live in the Lloydminster area.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic and operational communications counsel to Upstream, Downstream and Midstream regional and corporate leadership.
  • Develop and execute communications plans in support of key initiatives and in alignment with Cenovus’s business priorities including supporting turnarounds, employee events, developing communications plans to support regional and corporate priorities, and other key programs.
  • Support roll-out of strategic/business plans and various initiatives through creative use of various communication mediums.
  • Consult with internal clients to determine their communication needs and the best tactics to meet their objectives.
  • Work with Community and Indigenous Affairs advisor to manage engagement activities including regional community investment activities.
  • Support the rebranding of legacy Husky assets to Cenovus both internally and externally.
  • Develop and/or lead the creation of content for social media, intranet and website in support of Lloydminster operations.
  • Provide ongoing status updates and measurement of communications tactics.
  • Write and edit a variety of communication materials including communication plans, reports, presentations, news releases, announcements /articles, brochures, emails/memos, newsletters, change management materials, TV screens, speeches and scripting for videos.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research on relevant communications trends to support strategic and business planning processes.
  • Monitor regional issues and liaise regularly with supervisor and Corporate Communications.
  • Provide counsel to the local and corporate leadership teams on crisis management if required. Act as a member of the Crisis Response Team.
  • Assist with key regional events including Cenovus Gives, community meetings, open houses and tours.
  • Day-to-day interaction through meetings and conference calls with Communications colleagues throughout the organization and interaction with Business Units and corporate functions.
Qualifications:
  • Five to seven years of communications experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism or related program is preferred or a relevant post-secondary designation
  • Superior writing and editing skills.
  • Familiarity with the energy industry and region preferred.
  • Emergency management experience is preferred.
  • The ability to craft communications aligning the clients’ business need with corporate goals.
  • The ability to work as part of a team within Corporate Communications while directly supporting the region.
  • Proven track record as a communication strategist and accomplished implementer of communication plans.
  • Proven internal and external influencing skills at senior and executive management levels.
  • Experience in communicating change, including collaboration with stakeholders.
  • The ability to build relationships across the organization and to work independently.
  • Strong client relationship, interpersonal and team skills.
  • A confident presence and ability to clearly articulate strategies and concepts.
