Your Opportunity

Our Water group is seeking a Civil engineering Student to join our team in the Dartmouth, NS office.

Your Key Responsibilities

Assisting the engineers/designers in a variety of field and office assignments, including:

  • connceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of municipal infrastructure
  • cost estimating
  • report writing
  • water and wastewater modeling
  • construction site inspection
  • surveying

Typical projects include design, tendering support, and construction administration for:

  • pumping stations
  • water distribution
  • sewage conveyance
  • water/wastewater treatment
  • stormwater management
  • site grading and layout
  • parking lots and roads

The successful candidate is likely to work on a variety of tasks and projects covering the categories above. Site inspection activities for a variety of different civil construction projects will also likely be required.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction
  • Knowledge of design theory covering topics such as pipe flow, overland flow routing, and stormwater management is a plus
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal regulations, policies, and programs is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Dartmouth and surrounding area

Education and Experience

  • In progress toward earning a Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in civil, water resources, or environmental engineering (or related field).
  • Specific coursework or exposure to one or more of the following: Planning, design, construction of water/wastewater infrastructure, construction management, environmental water/wastewater treatment processes, hydrology, advanced and emerging technologies.
  • Experience working in the field on construction sites and monitoring contractors is considered an asset.

Typical working environment includes stretches of field work and stretches of office work. Time spent in the field depends on current projects and varies throughout the year. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Office work involves working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time.
