Project/Program Overview: General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada currently has a requirement for a Co-op Cyber Security Systems Engineering Student for a minimum 8 months within our Land and Joint Systems Business Area.

This role will support the development of the successful candidate in gaining experience in Cyber Security System Engineering fundamentals while working within an agile team. The successful candidate will be a student that demonstrates initiative, leadership, and the ability to learn and apply themselves within the engineering discipline.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities and range of activities will vary, but in general will include:

  • Perform System requirements analysis and development.
  • Participate in systems and software design and trade studies from brand new Software capabilities on Windows and Linux Virtual Machines.
  • Prepare, review and execute written test plans and test procedures.
  • Identify system defects, resolve issues and verify solutions have been correctly implemented.
  • Perform System integration activities in a lab environment.
  • Participate in an Agile team.
  • Documenting the analysis, design and test in accordance with development standards.
  • Perform design, analysis and/or test functions under the mentorship of senior engineers.

Qualifications: It would be excellent if the candidate had a combination of the following qualities/experiences, but we will work with them to grow in these areas:

  • Network Security principles and practice, Vulnerability Analysis, Threat Risk Assessment, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) concepts with hands-on implementation, as well as, Operating System Hardening.
  • Hands-On experience with one or more of the following products: Microsoft Enterprise network suite of software, McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), VMware vSphere, ESXi & vCenter.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills and take on ownership of work.
  • Sound communication skills and excellent collaboration skills
  • Solid problem solving skills with a willingness to develop a shared understanding of the problem with others.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Experience with/in the following would be considered an asset:

  • Industry certification such as CISSP, CEH, OSCP, GSEC, Security+, Network+, etc., or other related networking or security certifications would be viewed as an asset.
  • Knowledge with current government and industry standards such as CSE ITS Guidance, DISA STIGs, ITSG-33, ITSG-22, NIST SP-800 suite, ISO/IEC and other related standards is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Security Operations Center (SOC) technologies such as Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Intrusion Detection System (IDS), Intrusion prevention System (IPS), and machine.
  • Modelling diagrams and modelling software applications.
  • Customer facing presentations with a large audience.
  • Technical document writing.
