The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Research Assistant This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Patient and community based contact related to recruitment, enrollment and ongoing study participation of both healthy and patient population
  • Organize and maintain all research patient records according to research policies and guidelines
  • Conduct interviews with reliability assessed in conjunction with other raters
  • Manage the flow of study participants and be responsible for having assessments completed thoroughly and on time
  • Assisting with applications (e.g., ethics, grants) and development of research protocols
  • Data capturing, data processing, and data entry into an established computer database
  • Provide effective and professional assistance to patient and staff inquiries in a courteous, timely and professional manner, demonstrating friendly, complete, competent customer service and support at all times and in all situations
  • Complete case report forms on time and accurately
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Assist in preparation of scientific manuscripts

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a preference for training within a health-related field, required
  • Certification as a clinical research coordinator/professional, required
  • 1-2 years of related experience in the clinical research area at an academic institution, required
  • Experience working with people in health, research or educational environments, required
  • Familiarity with standard research rating scales for mental health, as well as experience in working with a clinical population with mental illness, required
  • Previous experience with database entry and database management, required
  • Ability to travel to different location within Calgary for recruitment and study procedures
  • Ability to deal with simultaneous priorities and competing timelines in an effective, efficient and professional manner
  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills, accuracy, and strong attention to detail
  • Proficient computer skills; experience using Word, Reference Manager, Review Manager, Excel
  • Ability to receive direction, collaborate with others in setting goals, and work effectively in teams to achieve agreed upon goals
  • Ability to self-motivate and take initiative
  • Outstanding communication skills (particularly verbal and interpersonal)
  • Excellent written skills required for the development of manuscripts and scientific papers
