TDE is searching for an Assistant Controller to be responsible for supporting and contributing to the financial management of the organization by ensuring accuracy and efficiency of the financial accounting operations, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, industry regulations, and internal policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Collaborate with the Controller in providing financial analysis and insights to support decision-making processes.
  • Develop and implement effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare regular month-ends to identify and address any discrepancies or issues.
  • Maintain and update work-in-progress schedule used to calculate monthly revenue (utilizing the percentage of completion method), over and under billings, and remaining contract backlog.
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting process by providing financial data, analyzing trends, and supporting the development of realistic financial projections.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all corporate tax returns, GST returns, PST returns and VAT returns.
  • Stay abreast of changes in tax regulations and implement necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial software and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Work closely with key external stakeholders to complete annual insurance renewal and annual credit facility renewals.
  • Act as signing officer for the company in relation to on-line banking requirements (EFTs, wire payments, transfers, buyer loans, receivable finance loans), customer invoicing, vendor credit applications, etc.
  • Provide training and support to accounting staff on system usage and best practices.
  • Assist in managing relationships with the external auditors and play senior role in the annual financial statement audits.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and management, to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to financial management.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of accounting staff.
  • Become an effective user of TDE’s accounting system “Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate”.
  • Perform other responsibilities and tasks to support the accounting department.

Qualifications:

  • Proven 5 + years of experience in accounting with a focus on financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance, preferably in the oil and gas manufacturing industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and tax laws.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including experience building formulas and pivot tables as well as pulling and manipulating large volumes of data.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Proven ability to produce high quality work while facing competing priorities and strict deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize activities, adapt to change, and stay focused in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, Teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to interact positively with all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and discretion when working with confidential information.
