After School Arts Leader

What is a Community School?
A Community School is a school which offers programming beyond the typical school day. These programs are offered to children and youth in both the school and surrounding community, which is overseen by a Program Coordinator who reports to a Board of Directors. Our overall goal is to provide support for community members and their families and provide life-long learning opportunities for all.

Position:
While working alongside a person of rapport, our arts leader will be working within Elementary and Middle Schools with “vulnerable” and “at-risk” school-aged children, from kindergarten to Grade 8, in up to 5 schools throughout Chilliwack. Our 2nd Day After School Program runs Monday through Friday, between 2pm-5pm. Programs run for 8 weeks at a time, from September to June, excluding Christmas Break, Spring Break, and Pro-D Days.

Duties:

- Plan weekly age-appropriate art activities
- Create lesson plans for groups of 15 children
- Send detailed weekly supply list to Program Coordinator each Friday for the following week
- Help set-up and clean-up for the day’s activities
- Introduce children to a variety of art materials

Terms of Employment & Qualifications:

- All School District #33 COVID-19 Protocols and procedures must be followed at all times
- Must complete a Criminal Record Check
- Education/experience with a background in art as well as working with children
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Use and knowledge of a variety of art mediums
- Flexible Availability
- Own Transportation
- Hours: Between 10-15 hours per week, depending on availability
- Must be available to work between 1:30pm-5:30pm

There is a 3-month probationary period at the commencement of employment. Applicants are required to complete a Criminal Record Check and having current First Aid is an asset. Compensation for successful applicants ranges from $18-$25 per hour depending on experience and skill set.

COVID-19 considerations:
All Staff, Instructors, and Children in grades 4 and older are to be masked at all times. Everyone is to sanitize and sign-in upon arrival, as well as complete a daily health check.
