About the MNjcc:

The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is a dynamic hub in downtown Toronto. It provides opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to be active, learn, connect and participate in a wide range of cultural experiences. Rooted in Jewish values, the MNjcc is open to all.

Founded on this site in 1953 the MNjcc is home to a state of the art Fitness Centre, the Al Green Theatre, four schools, four choirs, a wide range of arts and cultural activities, Jewish Life programming, and a robust Active 55+ program. It is a founding member of the Bloor Street Cultural Corridor.

Short Description of the Position:

As an employee of the Miles Nadal JCC, the Swim Instructor will be reporting to the Aquatics Manager and Lesson Coordinators. Swim Instructors are responsible for providing high quality swimming lessons to participants of all ages and abilities. Swim Instructors must be comfortable teaching both group and private lessons and all levels of the Red Cross Swim Program. They will conduct swimming lessons in a safe and enjoyable environment demonstrating good class control and safety supervision.

Customer service is our top priority and Swim instructors will play an important role in helping swimmers achieve their goals through education in an inclusive and accessible environment.

Changes due to Covid-19 Pandemic:

  • PPE (mask or face shield) will be provided and must be worn throughout entirety of shift
  • Staff are responsible for completing COVID screening prior to or upon entry to the facility.
  • Staff are required to comply with MNjcc and governmental policies around vaccination - proof of full vaccination is required for all on-site employees.
  • Limited class and pool capacity to ensure distance between swimmers and classes

Schedule:

  • Current Swim Lesson Schedule:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 4:30pm-7:30pmSaturday 9:00-12:15 * Must be Available to work weekends and/or weekdays and be able to commit to full session
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching the Red Cross Swim Program to both private and group classes
  • Ensuring the safety of all swimmers throughout the class
  • Performance of water rescue and first aid when necessary
  • Provide feedback to Members on participant’s progress when requested.
  • Timely completion of individual progress reports for the end of the session
  • Complete accident and incident reports when necessary.
  • Preparation of lesson plans for swim classes instructed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Red Cross WSI, Lifesaving Swim Instructor, Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid, CPR-C are required and must be current for duration of employment
  • NL, Lifesaving Instructor, Examiner (an asset)
  • Candidates must be able to legally work in Canada.
  • A Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment for all staff.
  • Please note that full vaccination against COVID-19 (or valid accommodation) is required to work in-person at the MNjcc at this time

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary starting at $17.00/hr based on experience and qualifications
  • For the duration of employment, you are entitled to a membership for the Miles Nadal JCC fitness centre with access to all classes and amenities.
  • All part-time staff are entitled to 2 personal emergency leave days per year.
