Global Calgary’s News Department is currently seeking a full-time Digital Journalist/Anchor to join our News at 11 team. This position will include five days a week of anchoring duties for the late night newscast and daily reporting and editing duties for News Hour at 6 and online. The successful candidate will be required to work late night shifts anchoring and assisting production of live television each day. Applicants should be aware that all shifts, including weekends, days, and mornings, are possible. This position reports to the Managing Editor.
About the Role

Responsibilities:

  • Anchor Global Calgary’s News at 11
  • Assist with writing and producing content and booking interviews for each newscast
  • Research and develop original and enterprising story ideas for News Hour at 6
  • report, write and edit stories for supper newscasts
  • Meet multiple daily deadlines to write, post, promote, update and curate local, regional and national content on globalnews.ca
  • Be a strong advocate, model and mentor for digital journalism
  • Display creativity in the use of visual graphics and other visual elements
  • Support late night producer with story assignments and breaking news
  • Report live, on location including unscripted material
  • Write radio voicers and deliver live debriefs on talk radio
  • Actively participate in daily assignment meetings by bringing enterprise pitches and advocating for strong local content
  • Anchor other newscasts as required including mornings, weekends and holidays
  • Participate in Global Calgary promotional & community activities
  • Perform other duties as required
What We Need From You:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • A post-secondary diploma, certificate or equivalent, in a broadcasting or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years on-air experience in a medium or major market newsroom environment
  • Strong on-air presentation skills with an emphasis on live hits, interviews and unscripted material
  • Major market producing experience is considered an asset
  • Experience producing, shooting, editing and anchoring is considered an asset
  • Adept writer for broadcast, online and social media with great online and traditional story research skills
  • This position requires someone who is comfortable working both independently and cooperatively in a team environment, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Familiarity with Canadian Press Style and experience publishing in WordPress are assets
  • Experience producing, shooting, editing and anchoring is considered an asset
  • Valid driver’s license
