Your role
CBC is looking for a Scheduling Specialist to join our Scheduling & Content Planning team. We work to connect audiences with the TV shows they love, and this role will contribute by building the linear and CBC GEM Platforms schedule including all metadata for our content slate. The Scheduling Specialist will work with the Scheduling management team and collaborate with Product teams, Communication teams, Business & Rights, Programming, Media Solutions and Media Presentation. S/he must be able to perform in an ever-changing environment and contribute to timely solutions. The successful candidate will be a results-driven, detail-oriented problem solver, who can work independently and who thrives in a positive team environment.
While work must conform to CBC standard operating and administrative procedures, there is both opportunity and a requirement for independent judgment, analysis and decision-making within sets of complex parameters. Work is subject only to general review and there may be a requirement to coordinate the work of others.
Key Tasks
  • Responsible for maintaining and inputting daily/seasonal schedules into various systems (i.e.: On Air, Program Guide, GEM) for various platforms (i.e.: CBC TV, Documentary Chanel, News Network, GEM)
  • Responsible for maintaining and inputting metadata into various system repositories
  • Assist in scheduling daily deliverables to linear and/or CBC GEM Platforms
  • Coordinate with several departments to source relevant metadata
  • Communicate and facilitate last minute changes with stakeholders
  • Ensure video playback meets accessibility guidelines
  • Coordinate the implementation special programming initiatives
  • Perform quality checks to ensure accurate scheduling information; ensure that technical issues are reported, documented and corrected as needed
  • Responsible for trouble shooting issues that arise on either linear or CBC GEM Platforms.
  • Uses knowledge in scheduling linear or digital properties to provide expertise and make recommendations within the framework of CBC’s mandate, budget and regulatory requirements
  • Be a resident expert on CBC’s programming, linear and digital platforms
  • Collaborate with peers in Media Presentation, Network Programming and Production to ensure technical issues are effectively resolved
  • Collaborate on projects with the Technology teams, contributing to design, equipment selection, implementation and testing
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in an environment with exposure to television broadcasting, scheduling, and digital platforms
  • Excellent communication skills including writing, verbal and listening
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and quick decision making skills under pressure
  • Ability to exercise judgment and work independently, taking initiative when required
  • Ability to solve technical problems
  • Experience with digital workflows and broadcast operations
  • Experienced relationship builder and self-starter
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly related to numbers and technical terminology.
  • Strong planning, analytical, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to multi-task when required; establish priorities amongst conflicting priorities, and work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience with online publishing systems and multi-platform distribution
  • Familiarity with closed captioning and described video
