ANY WSP OFFICE IN ATLANTIC CANADA

WSP is currently seeking a motivated Water Resource Engineer to join our established Infrastructure team in Atlantic Canada. Reporting to the Manager of Transportation & Infrastructure, this position will be responsible for the execution of studies and designs related to stormwater management, river hydraulics, flood management, climate change resilience, and wastewater collection systems. This position will engage with internal and external clients in the execution of these tasks and as such will be expected to have strong written and verbal communication skills in addition to a solid technical skillset.

This opportunity can be located within any of our Atlantic Canada offices: Dartmouth, NB; Moncton, NB, Fredericton, NB, or Summerside, PE.

The successful candidate will join WSP’s growing Water Resources Team. This position offers the opportunity to practice in a diverse array of projects primarily focused throughout Atlantic Canada, but may include projects across Canada. Responsibilities

• Engagement with internal and external clients to define and understand scope, collect supporting information, and communicate results;
• Directing and coordinating water resources activities related to engineering analysis and design, both from a technical and functional standpoint;
• Completing technical hydrologic and hydraulic analysis tasks to support the design and assessment of stormwater management facilities, storm sewer systems and infrastructure features affecting natural watercourses;
• Responsible to use a variety of tools and analytical techniques to complete computer modelling for urban and rural runoff management, flood control evaluation, river systems, and stormwater/wastewater system design;
• Provide technical advisory services to clients for specific projects in respect to stormwater and wastewater engineering;
• Actively participating in multi-disciplinary design team processes, providing advice regarding selection of storm drainage and stormwater management strategies, design of bridge/culvert crossing structures, and other water resources related infrastructure;
• Prepare analyses, designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, presentations, and reports as required;
• Authoring and reviewing reports/memos written to document technical analyses undertaken, for submission to clients and approval authorities;
• Confirming scope definition for engineering services, establishing design criteria for projects, and leading proposal/bid preparation activities;
• Hands-on analysis as well as mentoring junior or technical staff locally and in remote offices; and;
• Other duties as assigned.
  

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• An undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university; a focus on Water Resources is considered an asset;
• Minimum 4+ years in the field of municipal engineering, storm water management, water resources planning/engineering experience;
• Professional Engineer or eligibility for registration in Engineers Nova Scotia is required;
• Strong knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal regulatory requirements related to water resources, stormwater management and municipal infrastructure design and experience dealing with the same approval agencies;
• Strong working knowledge of computer models such as XP/PC-SWMM, InfoWorks, SWMHYMO, MikeUrban StormCAD, SewerCAD, HydroCAD, and/or HEC-RAS;
• Proficient knowledge in the use of CAD and GIS software;
• Demonstrated analytical (data collection, compilation and analysis), communication (verbal and written – including technical writing), reporting, and project management skills
• Innovative thinker willing to explore the application of new technologies for water resources systems;
• Eagerness to work with technical and management staff in offices across WSP in Atlantic Canada.
