RESPONSIBILITIES (could include, but are not limited to):

  • Onboarding
    • Provide support to new employees to ensure that their onboarding experience is a success, with specific guidance offered to newcomers to PEI and their families;
    • Work with teams to maintain and build on onboarding and training packages for new employees;
  • Training
    • Conduct organization-wide onboarding and training needs assessments and identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed;
    • Review and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of existing material and identify training and onboarding needs based on this review;
    • Collaborate with teams to lead the development of training material and knowledge transfer across the organization - product, business and technical;
    • Choose appropriate training methods for training delivery, staying current on market trends;
    • Coordinate and lead training checkpoints with each team and proactively assist with execution of training priorities;
    • Complete training research and present options to teams;
    • Work with teams to develop the next layer of leaders within the organization - in all business areas;
    • Seek and gather information from management and employees regarding the effectiveness of completed onboarding and training and constantly seek to improve;
    • Make recommendations on future training and onboarding improvements based on feedback and observations;
  • Career Development
    • Lead and coordinate corporate career planning process including checkpoint meetings and updates to plan documents for each employee;
    • Ensure consistent follow up throughout year and provide necessary supports to staff to ensure that career planning goals are being met;
    • Understand employee’s career aspirations and work with Directors and Managers to ensure related exposure and opportunities are being offered to employees;
  • Policy, Personnel & Employee Engagement
    • Assist employees with policy related questions and requests, assist with development and updates to company policies, and stay current on emerging HR trends;
    • Stay current on immigration programs and policies and maintain strong relationships with local supports such as provincial government and PEI Newcomers Association;
    • Support and coordinate potential and current employees in immigration related items including work permit applications, permanent residency applications, etc.;
    • Assist with employee recognition and engagement activities, prepare material for HR communications, and assist with company fundraising and community involvement initiatives; and
    • Prepare funding applications and complete other duties as required.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree in a related discipline, or a suitable combination of education and experience;
  • A certificate in Human Resources Management and/or a CPHR designation would be considered an asset;
  • 4+ years of experience in human resources with experience in training program development and career development planning;
  • Extensive experience with core software applications, including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel;
  • Experience working with a learning management system and/or e-learning author tools would be considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with a caring and charismatic personality and the ability to build strong relationships with others;
  • Detailed-oriented and have strong organizational and time management skills, with a desire to "dig in" to the details and take items from beginning to completion;
  • High level of self-motivation, ability to work with minimal supervision, and thrive in a team environment;
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks with a strong sense of urgency;
  • High degree of sensitivity to deal with sensitive and confidential matters; and
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail and ability to "think outside the box."
