Tax Services Associate Co-op

Job Summary

The Tax Services Associate requires an organized, hard-working, team oriented and computer proficient candidate. The individual must be able to manage and prioritize tasks assigned during the Tax department’s busy season. The candidate must meet the department’s tax season deadlines and be able to manage file completion from start to finish which includes on-the job learning and requires effective communication with internal staff and Financial Advisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare income tax returns and tax-related working papers and support for personal, corporate and/or trust returns;
  • Provide assistance in the process of updating various documents needed for the tax season;
  • Take ownership of files assigned and manage completion from start to finish;
  • Provide assistance in file administration;
  • Provide assistance in the electronic filing process;
  • Provide assistance to other Tax team members as needed;
  • Effectively communicate with team members regarding progress updates and issues on an ongoing basis;
  • Tax research, as required; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of

  • Fundamental investment concepts, practices, and procedures used in the securities industry; and
  • Canadian personal taxation is an asset.

Skill in

  • Microsoft Office with a willingness and ability to learn new applications;
  • Customer service; and
  • Organization, multi-tasking and working with deadlines.

Ability to

  • Learn quickly;
  • Work within deadlines in a high-volume and demanding environment while maintaining a high level of service and an imperative attention to detail;
  • Demonstrate advanced face-to-face, email, videoconferencing, and telephone etiquette and relationship management skills;
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Demonstrate a professional manner to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization;
  • Exercise tact and discretion in the handling of confidential information; and
  • Communicate proficiently in French is an asset.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements

  • Current enrolment in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Accounting or Finance;
  • Accounting industry or Tax experience is an asset;
  • Experience with Taxprep is an asset; and
  • Previous client service experience is an asset.
