The Sprott Department of Surgery, Canada’s largest surgical program within University Health Network (UHN), is looking for a Social Media & Special Projects Associate to join the TeamUHN.

The successful candidate must have a strong proficiency and enjoyment working with social media with the objective in sharing world-first stories that drive brand recognition, awareness and engagement (with patients, hospital partners/peers, government, media and staff). The preferred candidate should enjoy connecting with people, helping share their stories, and be an enthusiastic content creator, using both video and design/graphic tools that support various social and traditional platforms.

Reporting to Sr. Public Affairs Advisor, the Social Media and Special Projects Associate will lead the development and execution of the Sprott Department of Surgery social media and web strategies. This role will work closely with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders across the Department to build/create content, anticipate opportunities, understand day-to-day business operations and transform our world-first clinical care into content. The successful candidate will be a critical part of the team, directing and communicating on key strategic clinical and research initiatives alongside the operations and strategy teams. This role will work closely with Sprott’s Senior Public Affairs Associate and Senior Manager, Surgical Transformation to strongly align brand awareness, communication and strategic/operational initiatives. This role will also have the opportunity to support special projects, by developing visual and/or pitch presentations, content development (including patient educational material), and stakeholder engagement.

The role ensures patient stories, and examples of clinician impact and organizational excellence gain the widest possible reach. The desire to share and engage others that drive brand awareness, is a key component of supporting the largest surgical program in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Establishing, launching and managing the Sprott Department of Surgery social media platforms, including but not solely, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Create brand recognition both internal and external to UHN
  • Supporting video shooting and editing.
  • Supporting Sprott clinicians in highlighting their significant clinical, academic, and scientific
    achievements, both internally and externally.
  • Creating guidelines, training and resources for Sprott staff to apply to their social media practices
  • Support with writing the newsletters, creating internal/externa slide/pitch presentations, writing briefing notes or staff messages; collaborating with subject matter experts to create and adapt content; negotiating content changes with authors, expert reviewers and stakeholders.
  • Synthesizes information, interprets and uses critical thinking skills to draws conclusions that inform recommendations for high-level decision-making
  • Evaluates content on social media and presents back findings
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

The position requires someone who is diplomatic, flexible, quick-thinking and able to adjust to rapidly changing situations and projects.

Skills
•Ability to write to a range of audiences – patients, family members, medical professionals, students
•Strong eye for detail
•Experience with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.
•Knowledge of social media best practices
•Graphic design skills
•Knowledge of working with media
•Strong collaborative skills
