Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.These positions are based out of New Westminster and serve the following communities with the North Fraser Service Delivery Area: Burnaby, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, and New Westminster. You develop and supervise a comprehensive plan of care, inform the caregiver of their responsibilities, monitor the placement of children, provide guidance and assistance regarding children’s behavior. There is potential for this position to include work with children out of parental care on a temporary or "out of care" basis as well as children and youth in continuing care. An ability to work in collaboration with other program areas is critical to do this work. Close working relationships between teams are encouraged and expected to ensure excellent service to children, youth and their families.Your skill set includes experience in child protection work or guardianship, excellent communication skills and the teamwork and collaborative skills required to work productively with an interdisciplinary team and a diverse group of caregivers. Caring, responsive and organized, you have the skills needed for this challenging and rewarding career opportunity. In this role you may be required to work evening/weekends as well as be required to travel on occasion to remote locations.Under the direction of the Indigenous Services Team Leader and in accordance with legislation and policy, promotes the safety and well-being of Indigenous children, families and communities, including day to day care of the child throughout the child’s stay in care; develop and implement the comprehensive plan of care and cultural plan in consultation with families, children, youth, elders, caregivers and communities; develops and makes referrals to appropriate community resources, and deals with issues related to placement, develops appropriate permanency planning maintaining an appropriate cultural connections as best meets the individual needs and situation of children, develops meaningful relationships with the child, family, caregivers and community; ensures the child’s Section 70 rights under the Child, Family and Community Service (CF&CS) Act are met and exercises the Director’s authority under the Act; maintains case records; performs other duties as required.The BC Public Service is an award winning employer and offers employees competitive benefits, amazing learning opportunities and a chance to engage in rewarding work with exciting career development opportunities.   • Preferred Credentials:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work OR Child and Youth Care OR Master of Education in Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered; OR A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
  • Expanded Credentials:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree witha Major/Honors in a Human Services OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of two years of recent related OR job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
Human Services fields include:Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.Preference May Be Given To Applicants With The Following
  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • More than two years of work experience in child protection and/or guardianship roles, gained within the last five years.
  • Hold or be immediately eligible for delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA)
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
  • Work experience through completion of a practicum in family and child welfare and completion of the Child Protection Worker Pre-Employment Program.
  • Experience with MCFD tools such as ICM (integrated Case Management), MIS (Ministry Information System) and/or AMS (Adoption Management System).
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
