The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) is one of Canada’s largest learning and research multi-campus hospitals. With more than 1,100 beds and approximately 12,000 staff members, we deliver specialized care to the Eastern Ontario region.
Working together with its research institute, the University of Ottawa, and other partners, the hospital is continually gaining national and international recognition for high-quality patient care, teaching and research, while striving to meet the needs of the culturally diverse community we serve.
This position is for the Psychiatric Emergency Services.
Temporary postiion until approximately October 28, 2022.
Days, and evenings, 8 hour shifts.

- Master’s in Social Work with a clinical concentration from a university of recognized standing;
- Member in good standing of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers;
- Experience working in an acute care hospital setting;
- Experience in a multidisciplinary mental health setting;
- Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge of mental illness, intervention approaches, especially crisis intervention with persons experiencing a mental health crisis;
- Knowledge of a variety of theoretical frameworks and treatment modalities such as crisis intervention, systems theory, etc.
- Knowledge of the Health Care Delivery System;
- Knowledge of legislation, acts and regulations such as Ontario Works, Public Hospital and Mental Health Acts;
- Experience working with issues such as dying, grief and loss;
- Ability to provide both group and individual counseling;
- Excellent knowledge of discharge planning, community resources and the placement process;
- Excellent assessment and crisis intervention skills;
- Demonstrated skills in teaching and consultation;
- Superior written, verbal and presentation skills;
- Ability to multi-task;
- Superior interpersonal skills;
- Eligible to work in Canada.
- Recent Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training;
- Suicide Intervention Workshop;
- Proficiency in English and French – oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
