Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Employee Relations, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Management Philosophy of St. Boniface Hospital, the Senior Human Resources Consultantis responsible for:

Consultant Support– acts as a knowledge resource in the department by providing consultative direction and coaching to staff within Human Resources and Management within the Hospital.


Management Support
–consults on issues related to Performance Management, Attendance Support and Assistance Program, and Respectful Workplace Complaints. Work with Occupational Health in facilitating Return to Work and Workplace Accommodation Programs.


Employee Relations
– investigates workplace complaints,facilitates dispute resolution, administers employee relations activities of the Hospital in the interests of both union and non-union employees.

Labour Relations– interprets collective agreements and non-union policies, works with Managers on application of progressive discipline and grievance processes, participates in collective bargaining, supports the planning and implementation of Labour Adjustments.

Recruitment functions–Coordinate and participate in the applicable panel interviews; and participates in establishment and implementation of regional recruitment goals.

Experience

  • Five (5) years’ experience in Human Resources/Labour Relations, preferably in a unionized and/or hospital setting, is required.
  • Experience in administering collective agreements is required.
  • Experience in recruitment activities is required.
  • Experience in negotiating collective agreements is preferred.
  • Experience in human resources training and education program development is an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources/Labour Relations.


NOTE
: An equivalent combination of education and experience, as deemed recognized by the hospital, may be considered in lieu of the above.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • CPHR certification preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of computer systems and proficiency in the use of various common software applications which may include, but is not limited to, excel, word processing, outlook, database, internet arid email applications.
  • Understanding of Labour Relations Act, Human Rights and other relevant legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to retain information which is of a confidential nature.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.


Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT.
The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
