Nova Scotia Health Authority provides health services to Nova Scotians and some specialized services to Maritimers and Atlantic Canadians. We operate hospitals, health centres and community-based programs across the province. Our team of health professionals includes employees, doctors, researchers, learners and volunteers that provide the health care or services you may need. This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

The Senior Director of Finance is committed to a high standard of performance and will provide day to day financial expertise and support across the organization to support its strategic mission, vision and goals. and is a strategic partner working with leaders to achieve accountable fiscal targets and sustainable operations. The role is responsible for managing the overall financial operations of Nova Scotia Health and its $2.5 billion dollar budget. Support by the Vice President Corporate Services, Infrastructures & Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Director directly oversees financial functions including business planning, budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, accounting, financial operations, audit, financial reporting, financial capital planning, taxation, insurance, and treasury. These functions will be spread across several centres of excellence geographically located throughout the zones.

The position contributes to the leadership of strategies and operational plans consistent with legislation, accountability framework and the mission, vision and values of the organization. The Senior Director contributes to the strategic and operational leadership to corporate functions which envision, enable and support the ongoing development and delivery of high quality, provincially integrated health programs and services that are based on provincial standards of care which are efficient, sustainable, safe and responsive to the needs of Nova Scotians. The position supports a provincially integrated process and assists with leading the design and development, and results monitoring of numerous business plans and business cases to support the effective, efficient and sustainable delivery of services and programs.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree and professional CPA designation (CMA,CGA, CA) required
  • Master of Business Administration or related graduate degree is an asset
  • Certified Health Executive is an asset
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ senior financial experience with directing and overseeing the accounting, reporting, budgeting and analysis activities of an organization
  • Strong knowledge of health care issues
  • Analytical capability to solve complex problems and make timely decisions
  • Strong knowledge of accounting systems and software
  • Strong management and leadership skills with a track record of instilling a high performing culture
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate organization-wide finance initiatives
  • Provides thoughtful leadership to shape future decisions
  • Translate financial details into operational opportunities
  • Builds relationships between teams, reporting lines and matrix structures and motivates team members
  • Adapts to changing objectives and priorities
  • Clearly communicates the Nova Scotia Health vision, mission and values
  • Experience in working with patient care leaders
  • Lead and leverage data analytics to understand and communicate results, predict results, and inform decisions
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
