This Senior Advisor, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) position will support the BMO Canadian Personal & Business Banking (P&BB) group. With branches across Canada and a workforce of more than 10,000 employees, BMO Canadian P&BB serves individuals, families and small business owners. Reporting to the Chief Inclusion Officer and the Head People, Process & Change, P&BB Human Resources, the Senior Advisor leads the design and execution of BMO’s Canadian P&BB DEI Human Resources strategy in alignment with business/group strategy. The incumbent is accountable to deliver on specific key objectives to support BMO’s objective to foster Canadian P&BB’s high performance culture, underpinned by BMO’s values of integrity, diversity, empathy, and responsibility, with a specific focus on eliminating barriers to inclusion.

Responsibilities Include

  • Provides strategic input into business decisions as a trusted advisor.
  • Makes recommendations to senior leaders on strategy, new initiatives and resource requirements, based on an in-depth understanding of the business/group.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant DEI regulations and policies.
  • Recommends measures to improve organizational effectiveness to eliminate barriers to inclusion.
  • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Monitors and tracks performance on applicable indicators and address any issues.
  • Develops the DEI business case by identifying needs, analyzing potential options and assessing expected return on investment.
  • Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements and develops roadmap for strategic execution.
  • Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic DEI initiatives to deliver on business and financial goals.
  • Assists in the development of DEI enterprise strategic plans.
  • Helps determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of DEI business/group strategy.
  • Acts as the prime DEI subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders.
  • Ensures alignment between stakeholders.
  • Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
  • Breaks down DEI strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Conducts independent analysis to resolve DEI strategic issues.
  • Leads the development of the DEI communication strategy focusing on positively influencing or changing behaviour.
  • Collaborates across BMO to develop consistent DEI communications strategies.
  • Leads DEI change management programs of varying scope and type, including readiness assessments, planning, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
  • Builds DEI change management plans of varying scope and type; leads or participates in a variety of change management activities including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
  • Directs the planning & implementation of DEI programs & solutions and executes within required service level agreements and standards.
  • Leads the execution of DEI programs; assesses and adapts as needed to ensure quality of execution.
  • Provides thoughtful and effective DEI coaching to senior leaders to maximize skills/capabilities of the group and creates an environment of high performance and openness.
  • Develops DEI solutions and makes recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.
  • Provides DEI advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of wide range of HR topics & solutions.
  • Analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations. Gathers and formats data into regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • May network with industry contacts to gather and identify competitive insights and best practices.
  • Provides input into the planning & implementation of programs & solutions and executes within required service level agreements and standards.
  • Supports the execution of DEI strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a DEI specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
  • Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications

  • Typically, 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Appropriate HR designation (i.e. CHRP, ADR) preferred.
  • Knowledge in HR disciplines – Expert.
  • Risk mindset - Expert.

  • Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience and industry knowledge.
  • Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth / Expert.
