The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed. They are not representing an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

Bishop’s University is seeking A Security Systems Administrator & Technical Support Officer for a regular full-time position. Reporting to the Manager of Security the incumbent will help oversee and support all technical aspects related to the Bishop’s University Security Department including but not limited to, CWSS (Campus Wide Security System: comprised of surveillance cameras, access control, Intrusion alarms, panic buttons), the campus two-way radio communication system, Security patrol verification system, Security emergency phones & communication devices. The incumbent will also assist in supporting the Security Department’s parking applications and related infrastructure as well as the Fire/Life Safety Alarm system. As required the incumbent will perform security officer duties. This position has a work week of 40 hours from Monday to Friday with occasional evenings and weekends required.

Nature of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine to complex setups, installations and configurations on the CWSS system, and other Security related systems and infrastructure, including but not limited to cameras, fire panels, motion detectors, alarm systems, card access systems, etc.;
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and resolve routine to complex problems on all security related systems;
  • Consult with system users to identify existing/arising problems/issues, as well as consults and makes recommendations on new projects and installations that will meet the users’ needs while also ensuring compliance with University Standards, guidelines and policies.;
  • Assist with researching, recommending, implementing and testing new technologies, functionality and configuration changes on Security related systems;
  • Provide on-call/after-hours front-line support when assigned or requested.
  • Coordinate with outside organizations (Emergency Services/9-1-1, Alarm Monitoring Centre, Champlain Regional College, On/Off campus Service providers) to assure Security communications and monitoring are working as intended and up to date;
  • Coordinate and work alongside other university departments as well as outside service providers to assure systems are kept up-to-date and in compliance with university and government standards (software updates, patches and configuration changes);
  • Automate systems to improve efficiency;
  • Ensure licensing compliance of all Security related systems;
  • Plan for and respond to service outages and other problems that may arise;
  • Assist in adding / removing and updating user account information and security access as needed;
  • Implement and improve security systems, including equipment, installations, programming, testing, troubleshooting, debugging, as well as organizing, documenting and delivering training for security personnel and system users;
  • Participate in development, implementation and updating of various University policies and guidelines related to Security systems;
  • Participate in internal / external committees when appropriate or requested;
  • Performs security officer duties as required;
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • College Diploma (Technical DEC normal duration of 3 years);
  • 1 to 3 years of similar experience;
  • Valid BSP license for Security Guarding and Electronic Security Systems;
  • Trained & licensed security officer;
  • Fluent knowledge of English and working knowledge of French;
  • Heavy and medium exertion;
  • Valid 4A driver’s license;
  • Valid first Aid.

Classification: Class 13 $27.42 to $35.76 per hour (APBU – unionized position)
