Function/Purpose:

The Roads Analyst will be responsible for monitoring, forecasting, providing quantitative analysis, managing contracts, and coordinating activities for a variety of Public Works, Roads Section operations and Assets.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Business/Finance, or similar combined program and experience in field related to Public Works Roads section.
  • Three years’ experience in Municipal Public Works, Roads and Streets Maintenance environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in Fleet operations would be an asset.

In addition to the 9 Core Competencies identified for all employees of the City of Red Deer, the following are specific to this position:

  • Perform financial and budgetary analysis.
  • Track operations and gather data.
  • Strong operational and technical knowledge and understanding of accepted work procedures in the Public Works Roads section.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with the Public and other City departments and agencies, including during situations of conflict. Must regularly communicate with Superintendent, Foreman, Operators, the Public Works Manager, the Public, Contractors and Suppliers.
  • Work with considerable independence and demonstrate maturity, initiative and resourcefulness in achieving objectives.
  • Good knowledge of the City’s procurement policies and procedures.
  • Ability to adjust to a changing environment.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential subject matter, which if improperly handled would have a significant negative impact on the City.
  • Prioritize plans and demonstrate organization in situations of competing activities to ensure goals are accomplished efficiently and effectively.
  • Display strong interpersonal, teamwork and flexibility skills.
  • Create and maintain a safe workplace, adhering to the policies and procedures outlined by the City.
  • Demonstrate leadership and actively participate in building a respectful workplace environment.
  • Good presentation skills with working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Good computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Hansen and mapping systems such as Red GIS as well as miscellaneous APPS for tracking operations.

Specific Demands of the Job:

  • Must work through periods of stress associated with identifying and resolving problems, meeting deadlines and working within a team.
  • Must quickly prioritize work while dealing with frequent interruptions and conflicting priorities.
  • Required to work outside regular business hours including weekends and holidays in order to meet deadlines, especially during severe weather conditions.
  • Occasional public speaking.
  • Attendance at public and internal meetings.

Remuneration:$37.13 to $39.31 per hour

Hours of Work:75 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday; occasionally some evenings and weekend work may be required.
