SUMMARY

The General Manager’s role is to run a profitable business. This position focuses on providing the highest level of guest satisfaction while being fully accountable for all sales, COGS, people, and overall F&B operation at the Restaurant. The General Manager is the Restaurant’s senior leader and a role model for The Little Sparo and within the community of St John’s, promoting values and excellent staff culture.

CONCEPT

The Little Sparo sits in a restaurant space once occupied by a diner with spectacular harbour views in downtown St. John’s. The Little Sparo’s food and beverage program focus on quality ingredients and the passion and patience to let them work their magic. We’ve proudly created a welcoming and comfortable environment that surpasses customer expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruit, interview, and hire team members; conduct performance appraisals, take disciplinary action, motivate and train
  • Create an environment that is safe, welcoming and filled with positivity for guests and employees
  • Building strong and cohesive relationships among Front and Back of House.
  • Understanding of financial reports such as P&L, Income Statements, budgets, Menu Costing, Cash Control/Security, maintaining inventory, managing labour and other sales reports, and taking appropriate action
  • Establish and maintain standards, systems, and procedures of daily operations for all assigned F&B outlets. Ensure staff knows and adheres to policies, procedures and established steps of service and service standards
  • Quickly and accurately identify critical information and make independent judgments in accordance with company philosophies and business practices
  • Report to stakeholders and partners regarding sales results and productivity.
  • Uphold standards maintain excellent internal and external customer service, treating everyone with courtesy and respect
  • Ensure the restaurant is complying with employment standards, human rights, health and safety, pest control, alcohol handling and WHMIS.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve daily service issues and customer complaints.
  • Prepares and implements standard operating procedures, coordinates restaurant operations during each shift, determines and implements operating improvements
  • Maintains restaurant cleanliness and upholds esthetics standards
  • Ensure repairs, maintenance and preventative maintenance plan for the Restaurant
  • Implementation and execution of marketing and promotional activities
  • Host and books special events outside of regular business operations to maximize revenue
  • Reviews weekly reservations, guest reviews and events ensuring a seamless booking process and guest satisfaction
  • Appropriately adapts to seasonal changes and creates and manages relevant initiatives
  • Complete weekly payroll reports
  • Investigate key issues leveraging resources where required. Report on trends during weekly team meetings, one on one discussions to ensure root cause is resolved.
  • Lead weekly manager meetings
  • Organize and thorough with administrative duties
  • Any other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of experience in a General Manager or Senior Manager capacity within the hospitality industry; preferably in high-volume in outlets and events
  • Business, hospitality or food and beverage management degree/diploma, or the equivalent in education and experience, is considered an asset
  • Effective leadership, communication, problem-solving, reasoning and analytical abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills to function effectively under time constraints with particular attention to detail and quality of service.
  • Excellent communication skills to internal departments and other Hotel departments
  • Ability to handle and resolve conflict quickly and effectively
  • Able to lead and mentor a team.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all business contacts.
  • Professional appearance and demeanour.
  • Experience programming the administrative back end with Restaurant POS Systems
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Capability to stand for prolonged periods and lift up to 50 lbs of weight
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, walk, and carry multiple objects
  • Strong knowledge in Cost Accounting, Developing Budgets, Financial Planning and Strategy
  • Demonstrated experience with decision making, process improvement, strategic planning, customer focus, management proficiency, managing profitability, quality control
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Strong analytical/decision-making skill
