Infrastructure

The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Education/Experience Required:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of experience and eligibility for professional registration with NAPEG; OR
  • A Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with a minimum of 6 years of experience.
  • Experience must be relevant and progressive.
  • Must also possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $47.68 per hour to $56.96 per hour (approximately $92,976 - $111,072) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.

Job Information

As the Project Officer you will perform planning, initiation, managing and delivery of major capital and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) projects involving highways, bridges, culverts and other transportation structures for the Department of Infrastructure. You will be part of a team who undertakes projects to ensure structures are evaluated, rehabilitated, maintained and reconstructed to be capable of withstanding the demands of ever increasing and heavier traffic loads while meeting environmental regulations.

As the Project Officer you will directly manage projects as well as be part of various teams assembled to meet the needs of specific bridge and culvert maintenance, rehabilitation and construction projects, and will have the authority to initiate contracts up to $30,000 in value and to approve contract performance up to $100,000 while managing the delivery of Capital and O&M projects generally with a total value of up to $10 million.
