Our client is seeking a Project Engineer to work within their facilities located in Fort Saskatchewan, AB, for a 7-month assignment.

This Project Engineer position is responsible for the development and delivery of a novel biofuel project that is being developed at the refinery, including managing the engineering, execution planning, delivery, and handover of the project. This person will have cost and schedule accountability for portions of the project, including delivery of specific scopes and contracts aligned with the project premises. The successful candidate will work closely with the project manager, functional engineering leads, commercial leads, and technology teams as needed.

Job Responsibilities
  • HSSE leadership, role model commitment to Life Saving Rules, Goal Zero, Golden Rules, Hearts & Minds and Technical Integrity and Process Safety.
  • Support the development the project’s Basic Design and Engineering Package (BDEP).
  • Deliver geotechnical and topographical surveys to provide input into engineering design.
  • Manage the project management of change (MOC) procedure and ensure closure of follow up actions.
  • Manage the project action logs, including follow up with action holders and documenting close out.
  • Develop the projects Technical Integrity Verification plan and implement in the execute phase ensuring compliance with outlined requirements.
  • Participate in project SCRUM (AGILE) and develop skills to perform the “scrum master” role.
  • Develop the projects Documentation Plan and implement in the execute phase as part of the Project to Asset procedure and deliver information required for handover and startup of the project.
  • Manage contracts (or portions of contracts) in accordance with the projects post-award contract management procedure.
  • Manage interfaces across with engineering contractors / design firms, vendors, partners and P&T as it pertains to engineering deliverables.
  • Support RFI and technical inquiries from construction contractors during execution and integrate with engineering teams to provide resolution to outstanding issues.
Required Skills/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 5 years of Project Engineering Experience across the pre-FEED, FEED and EPC phase, or experience as part of a new energies, refinery small projects or turnaround, chemical or gas technical project organization
  • Experience within oil and gas refining, downstream, and/or Biofuel industry including experience in design and construction.
  • Must be eligible for accreditation with APEGA in either a Professional Engineering or Professional Licensee capacity.
  • PMP/APMQ certification is preferred.
