Dow’s Packaging & Specialty Plastics (P&SP) Technology Center has an opening for aProcess Automation Manager to support Solution PE technology.

P&SP is the highest revenue-generating business in the company and a worldwide leader in the production, marketing, and innovation of polyethylene, polyolefin elastomers, and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber. The P&SP business contributes greater than 70% of Dow’s total corporate earnings and plans to continue building new world-scale polyethylene production facilities and debottlenecking existing facilities in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.

About You

In this role, you will support Solution PE plants and projects globally, which includes green field projects like world scale TX- Poly 7 in Freeport, the world’s first net zero carbon emission petrochemical complex project in Fort Saskatchewan Alberta, Canada.

You will serve as a technical associate or a process automation lead for small through large capital and improvement projects regionally and/or globally, direct and leads both Dow and contract resources and be involved in all three phases of projects: front end loading, detailed design and construction, and commissioning and startup.

You will recognize within the discipline and geography for the expertise and participates in global teams. Leverages technical know-how and implements best practice applications within an area of expertise of a discipline themselves and by providing technical coaching, consulting, and support for others within the site and region.

Responsibilities / Duties

In a project leadership capacity:
  • Establishes project goals and planning. Tracks progress, schedules, and costs for the PA team during all project phases.
  • Completes technical review of the control teamwork and provide coaching/corrective feedback.
  • Determines testing scenarios and oversees the simulation of the control system to test the strategy and improvements.
  • Works with other engineers to determine the project and control requirements.
  • Creates the process control overview for the project and develops user requirement system specifications.
  • Estimates the process control cost and schedule for the project and manage against these baselines.
  • Accountable for Developing functional requirement specification (FRS) for the system and creates detailed requirement specifications (DRS), including both the safety and control systems, as well as design and implementation of the basic process control system (BPCS)
  • Develops control software, operator graphics and simulation software.
  • Completes the factory acceptance test (FAT) Commissioning.
  • Provides training of operations and support commissioning and start-up of the new asset.
  • Leads the coordination with the global discipline technical experts to ensure MET is applied and/or variances are indicated and worked through in a timely manner.
In a Technical associate capacity:
  • Provides technical support, coaching and consulting for project teams, operations, maintenance, and other technology centers.
  • Identifies and develops both technology and work process enhancements which deliver value.
  • Supports the implementation of discipline technology strategy and provides input/feedback on the strategy in specific area of expertise.
  • Serves as site or regional technology focal point, providing timely technical reviews and input to complex designs and/or any variances from MET on capital projects or in support of maintenance/operations.
Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical is preferred)
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (i.e. process automation, engineering, manufacturing, or related)
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 25% annually to support project needs and meet all applicable requirements related to business travel (e.g., as to immigration and visa rules, public-health mandates, airline rules, etc.) into and out of (and physical presence in) various countries worldwide.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in Packaging & Specialty Plastics technology is an advantage.
  • Experience in large capital projects and Mod5 migration projects.
  • Proficiency in Process Automation application development in ABB or Mod5 platform
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by influence and to work across multiple cultures/time zones.

  • This role may be performed at any of Dow’s major Plastics & Specialty Plastics locations (Freeport, Houston, Plaquemine, Fort Saskatchewan, Bahia Blanca, Terneuzen, Tarragona, Schkopau).
