About the Opportunity

We are currently looking for a President to grow our business, implement systemic changes that align with our core values, and lead Northerm to achieve our commitments to our shareholders. The President is the key decision maker of the management team and is responsible for overseeing the scope and operation of Northerm’s entity in Yukon, as well as Capitol Glass, our venture in Alaska.

This role is perfectly suited for a mid-market leader who is looking for a lifestyle move to one of Canada’s most untouched capitals. Nature, hiking, and hunting, as well as a diverse community in a city with small-town vibe, makes Whitehorse a special place to call home.

Your essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leadership/Human Resources:Recruiting, mentoring, and coaching team members to support the organization’s ability to achieve results
  • Strategic Planning:Guiding Northerm’s growth by overseeing the development and implementation of plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes and personnel, including a profit-sharing model
  • Communication and Relationship Building:Establishing and maintaining relationships with key government individuals and contractors and building rapport across all organizational levels
  • Business Management:Driving revenue growth and profitability through effective financial planning, payroll management, forecasting, budgeting, and negotiation
  • Business Development: Building the company’s presence across the North, by increasing partnerships that include private, government, and First Nations contracts in Yukon and Alaska
  • Financial Acumen:Tracking financial performance (minimum monthly), and having a strong understanding of budgeting, profitability, costing, pricing, and discounts
  • Brand Development: Participating in the annual business planning process, and ensuring our participation in relevant Yukon, Alaska and trade show events to increase awareness of our brand

About You

To qualify, you must have proven leadership and high-level operational experiencein a mid-market organization, as well as manufacturing experience. Candidates who had success in their past roles as an Operations Manager, Business Leader, and General Manager, are encouraged to apply!

To succeed in this role, you must possess the following:

  • Human Resources and people management
  • Business / financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Business plan development and implementation
  • Working knowledge of standard computer programs
  • Reporting to Board of Directors

In addition, the following will be considered valuable assets, but not required:

  • A university Degree in Business/Accounting, or relevant studies
  • Ability to build relationships with a diverse workforce
  • First Nations projects / partnerships
  • Supply chain management

As a key decision maker, you have proven success in creating a Continuous Improvement culture through effective leadership. Your business operational expertise will be crucial in creating an environment that motivates your team in all aspects of productivity, teamwork, and strict safety guidelines.

Your influence will cover the operations of both Northerm and Capitol, with the purpose of driving our growth through strategic long-term, measurable goals. You will join us with impeccable communication and people skills, to effectively nurture relationships with peers, government partners, First Nations stakeholders, clients, and contractors.

Lastly, you will join us with efficient time management skills, an innovative and solutions-focused mindset, and exceptional adaptability in prioritizing deadlines.
