The laboratory of Dr. Courtney Jones at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PM) at University Health Network (UHN) and University of Toronto (UofT) is seeking a post-doctoral scientist to interrogate leukemia stem cell metabolic vulnerabilities. Research activities will include interrogating essential metabolic pathways in primary AML specimens using mass-spectrometry based metabolomics analysis, using RNAi and CRISPR technologies to perturb metabolic pathways in primary AML specimens, and patient derived xenograft modeling.

Research Environment: PM comprises a teaching hospital and affiliated research institute devoted exclusively to cancer research, treatment, and education. PM is linked to the University of Toronto and is a member of the UHN, which also includes the Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. PM has achieved an international reputation as a global leader in the fight against cancer and is considered among the top comprehensive cancer treatment and research centres in the world. There are ample opportunities to collaborate with experts in the fields of tumor metabolism, basic and clinical leukemia biology, and stem cell biology throughout PM, UHN, and UofT.

While this position is not contingent upon securing additional funding, successful candidates will be encouraged to apply for external sources of support. Finally, candidates will be encouraged to mentor students within the lab, gain additional managerial and leadership skills to enable them to successful achieve their long-term career goals.

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree, obtained within the last five (5) years, in biochemistry, cancer biology, or related field
  • Experience and/or willingness to work with pre-clinical animal models.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, along with a high degree of independence and the flexibility to thrive in a novel and rapidly evolving research environment.
  • Proven track record of publication and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and work effectively with a diverse team of clinicians, senior scientists, post-docs, graduate students, and technicians.

Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
