Position Overview


As a key member of the Human Resources (HR) team; the Northern Talent Coordinator will liaison with the four Tłı̨chǫ communities as well as current and potential Burgundy employees that are part of Burgundy’s Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) Groups. The role will work closely with the Manager, Human Resources and Supervisor, Training plus the Tłı̨chǫ Client Services group. A central focus of the role will be on increasing employment and training opportunities within these IBA groups, with an ease in leading presentations, speaking to groups and being a champion for Burgundy as an employer of choice. In addition to the focus on IBA Groups, the coordinator will also provide administrative support to the HR team, with taking ownership of some administrative processes.


The incumbent will work a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off schedule at the Ekati Diamond Mine and travel within the Northern Communities as required.


Job Duties/Responsibilities


  • Supporting the training team with the onboarding process and activities to ensure new employees are onboarded successfully
  • Assisting with site orientation tours on crew shift change days
  • Helping community members navigate skill development opportunities for pre-employment and to apply for roles once an employee
  • Supporting candidates with utilizing tools and resources in the recruitment process, including resume development
  • Assisting with recruitment career fairs, workshops, training, and events put on by the Tłı̨chǫ Client Services group.
  • Assist with hiring into apprentice programs and support employees with GED completion
  • Community outreach to high schools and community colleges to promote mining
  • Building relationships and engaging with existing Indigenous stakeholders, and the Tłı̨chǫ Government
  • Working closely with the Tłı̨chǫ Client Services group, Chiefs, and the Tłı̨chǫ government, conducting surveys to better understand cultural and community needs
  • Liaising between Northern communities and Burgundy
  • Serving as a cross-cultural link and sharing traditional knowledge
  • Organizing cultural events on site
  • Helping build and maintain positive relations across the mine site
  • Providing general guidance on employment questions and administering HR requests, addressing payroll and benefits questions. Balancing time at the Learning Centre to be a

visible support of HR to all employees

  • Promoting and advocating on health and safety initiatives

Education/Experience


  • Formal education in HR, training, or a relevant field and/or equivalent work experience
  • Experience within an administrative capacity
  • Experience with community volunteer work or leadership programs
  • Competent with technology including the Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the Northern communities and within the organization
  • Positive attitude
  • Collaborative team player
  • Presentation skills
  • Bilingual candidates would be preferred (Tłı̨chǫ language and English)

Additional Information


The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.


This role is specific to a candidate from the four Tłı̨chǫ Communities and must be a Tłı̨chǫ member and qualify under Arctic’s Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) Groups.
