OPPORTUNITY

Mental Health Therapist

The Yorkton Tribal Council is seeking one (1) highly motivated individual for the full time position of Mental Health Therapist in the Health and Social Development Department.Reporting to the Director of Health and Social Development, the Mental Health Therapist position is responsible to respond to and prioritize, refer and provide individual and group treatment services to First Nations caseload. The Mental Health Therapist provides individual and group support at the community level to YTC members.

Reporting to the Director of Health and Social Development, the Mental Health Therapist position is responsible for the following:

Duties:

  • Assess, screen, prioritize and provide treatment to YTC member communities
  • Provide culturally appropriate specific individual, family and group therapy
  • Provide consultation/coordination of treatment plans
  • Provide services to clients with personal/family, long term mental illness
  • Consult with the manager of adult community services and child and youth services of mental health services regarding the mental health needs of the First Nations population to ensure promotion and education is presented in a culturally sensitive manner
  • Participate in assigned community development projects and protocol development
  • Focus on all mental health related issues (family violence, addictions, treatment and healing)

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Social Work, and specialized training in counseling and addictions or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Must have a minimum of five years of experience in managing counseling and/or addictions programs supported by the knowledge and understanding of First Nations language, culture, traditions and social issues.
  • Must be willing to travel, must possess a valid driver’s license as well as maintain throughout employment and reliable vehicle, and must submit a current Criminal Record Check.

· Work irregular or extended hours to complete special requests and/or projects

· Must manage a number of people, priorities, and projects at one time, and may have to respond to emergency or crisis situations

· The environment requires excellent organizational, time management, and stress management skills

· Must be aware of all YTC health and social development programming along with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures

Salary: To Commensurate with qualifications. A combination of education, relevant training, and work experience will be considered.
