Bayshore Medical Personnel is seeking a Mental Health Nurse (MHN) to provide service to our client in a primary health care setting in Yellowknife, Canada for a full-time contract.

Mental Health Nurses (MHN) are responsible for assessment, nursing diagnosis, development and implementation of a care plan, and evaluation of mental health nursing care. MHN’s provide crisis intervention and counseling and life skills programming to clients in the mental health clinic. They act as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, and their work includes walk-in and scheduled appointments with individuals or family and group therapy sessions.

An important part of this role is to provide counseling services on an individual/group therapy sessions, using CBT, DVT or motivational interview techniques. Candidates also need to be skilled with bio-psychosocial assessments and conducting medication management from inpatient and outpatient perspective.

Successful candidates will possess a minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience within the last five (5) years in nursing practice performing a variety of mental health nursing activities such as supportive psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, counseling, and crisis intervention or management in an adult community setting to clients suffering from mental illnesses or psycho-social difficulties.

Candidates Must Also Possess
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a recognized university with either a certificate in:
    • Mental Health Nursing or
    • Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA)
    • Registered Nurse license from the provincial or territorial professional college or association in the province of practice
    • Certificate of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider or CPR/AED Level C. Annual recertification is required
