  • Job **Background** & Summary:* We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations focused on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Consultant to join our team on a part time consulting basis. The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division based out of New Westminster, BC.

This position will be an part of our team by both performing and overseeing others in the detailed design of gas regulating stations, piping, stress analysis, and other mechanical infrastructure projects in the power and public transportation industries.

The Mechanical Engineering Consultant will prepare technical drawings for internal and external clients. Key activities include mechanical/gas piping/gas facility design/engineering, developing Bill of Materials (BOMs) and standard templates for mechanical drawings, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, mentoring junior engineers, technologists and designers, and developing and implementing procedures for the efficient delivery of technical drawings.

This role can be 100% remote.

This role requires a proof of Covid19 vaccination.

This role required Drug and Alcohol screening as a pre-employment requirement.
  • Job Responsibilities:*
  • Design transmission and distribution pressure natural gas piping, regulating, control, and pressurization stations
  • Review and author Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) Reports meeting AACE Class level project definitions
  • Ensure all engineering and design activities are in full compliance with regulations, codes, standards and guidelines as they apply to the design, environment, safety, and regulatory requirements of the project work
  • Design mechanical equipment and auxiliary piping for electrical substation and transportation infrastructure projects
  • Oversee and direct the work of internal engineers, technologists, designers, drafters, and external resources in the engineering process including: Detailed engineering design activities including materials and equipment specifications, Issued for Construction (IFC) documentation, work procedures, and commissioning procedures; Onsite construction monitoring and troubleshooting support, witness testing and commissioning procedures; and Completion of as constructed drawings and delivery of all project engineering documentation close out.
  • Provide technical design guidance and mentorship to Mechanical Engineering Group.
  • Job Requirements*
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientist of BC (EGBC). We will consider candidates that need to transfer their P.Eng. from another Canadian Province or Territory.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years’ related work experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ work experience focused on engineering and design of natural gas pipelines and facilities in accordance with Z662 Oil & Gas Pipeline Systems.
  • Proven experience on FortisBC gas facility projects as a EOR.
  • Proven ability to lead project teams and supervise work of junior staff
  • Experience in mechanical stress analysis for industrial piping or pressure vessel applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working on several projects simultaneously to meet competing deadlines
  • Considered an asset, but not required*
  • Experience in Industrial Building HVAC design or fire suppression design would be considered a strong asset
  • Familiarity with ASME Section II and VIII, ASME B31.3, ASHRAE, API, and NFPA standards considered a strong asset
  • Experience in developing and authoring engineering processes/procedures would be considered an asset
