Overview / Responsibilities

Wood’s teams of professionals offer a full range of services to clients in a wide range of sectors including government, industrial & commercial, water, transportation, minerals & metals, oil & gas and clean energy.

We are currently hiring Materials Testing Technicians for our Edmonton, Alberta office.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include conducting various tests on asphalt pavements, concrete, aggregates and various soils in both laboratory and field environment. This position will require working occasionally out of town projects. In addition, the incumbent will:

  • Maintain orderliness of laboratory
  • Preparation of inspection reports and data entry
  • Follow Wood’s Project Review, Ethics and Safety Policies
  • Field Concrete testing
  • Field Compaction testing
  • Lab Work
    • Sieve Analysis
    • Proctors
    • Cylinder Breaking
    • CSA calibrations
    • Moisture Contents
  • Monitor geotechnical drilling, instrumentation installations, and core sample collections
  • Install various instruments pertaining to slope stability and foundation assessments
  • Construction monitoring
  • Instrumentation monitoring
  • Geotechnical Core logging

Skills / Qualifications

  • College diploma or certificate in Civil, Constrution or Materials Technology
  • 1-3 years of related work experience
  • Sound knowledge of soils (including the unified soil classification system)
  • Flexibility to work a variety of schedules (from 1 week on up to 3 weeks on shift (days / nights)) as well as a bility to work in both the laboratory and field
  • Preference given to those with previous experience in the construction industry
  • Familiarity with test procedures for concrete, aggregate, soil and asphalt
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Willing to do a variety of tasks and able to prioritize
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required
  • Capable of working in adverse weather conditions and working long, physically demanding and varied hours in remote locations
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and conduct other physically strenuous tasks such as shoveling and augering, etc.
  • Unrestricted Class 5 driver’s license that is valid in the province of Albeta is required
  • Ability to provide driving abstract
  • CSA Safety boots required
