Junior Buyer

The Junior Buyer is responsible for managing the supply of materials to support production activities while meeting cost, quality and delivery requirements. Utilizing excellent communication and organizational skills to coordinate with Production and Logistics departments to ensure timely availability of materials to meet production schedules. The Junior Buyer position provides a great opportunity to learn about and work with various departments within the company.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Issue, modify and cancel purchase orders to domestic and international suppliers. Monitoring on-time delivery and expediting when necessary
  • Receive order confirmations; update system and open order reports
  • Maintain part planning and purchasing parameters (minimum on hand, lot sizes, lead times, cost, etc.), and supplier information
  • Analyze material requirements to meet production schedules, maintain inventory targets, and issue forecasts to suppliers
  • Resolve material shortages, provide regular updates to Production Department
  • Track and report monthly cost savings
  • Manage VMI programs in place with suppliers
  • Participate in the material review board to process non-conforming materials. Manage RMA / warranty issues with suppliers, coordinating shipments of parts for warranty or repair
  • Resolve receiving errors with Shipping Department and invoice discrepancies and payment issues with Accounting Department
  • With the Logistics team, co-ordinate storage and movement of off-site inventories
  • Manage the purchase ticket system to handle purchase requests for miscellaneous items
  • Source new parts as required for new product development/part obsolescence etc.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Materials Management or Business Administration diploma / degree / certificate.
  • 1-3 years of purchasing experience in direct/indirect materials required; Electronics industry experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to communicate professionally with people within all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills; the ability to handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve conflict.
